I'm saying by watching the video I'm not comfortable in saying he tried to punch him. Only thing I know for sure with information given is he knocked his hat off

I agree. My opinion would be very different if he punched the official. All I can see on video is he knocked the official's hat off. Very big difference in the offense and penalty between those two acts.

Try what? I asked if anyone was interested in me showing them the difference between knocking a hat off and"taking a swing at them". Nobody was pointed out or singled or out called out. It's state law that knocking someones hat off is assault ? I would argue from that close of range if he was able to knock that hat off , then if he wanted to punch him he would have.

 

Serious question for you. Have you ever been in a fight? Speaking from experience, unless you're dealing with trained boxers/fighters, whiffing at that distance isn't uncommon. It was a violent movement that knocked his hat off, not some innocent flip of his hat. It's blatantly obvious.

He wasn't that far away. If I'm that close to someone and they don't dodge I'm not whiffing that bad. So maybe the kid has never thrown a punch before.

 

I do like the passive aggressive reply .A+. But I'm not going to give some silly reply about the amount of fights or training I've had. But I feel like any normal guy from that distance connects if they want to.

Not passive aggressive at all. It was a legit question. I got in a fight around that age and completely whiffed on the first one I threw. It's not that uncommon to miss is all I'm saying.

The player still should get a severe punishment for knocking an official's hat off. If he participates in another sport, I would suspend him for half the season. If he is finished with sports, another punishment.

I cannot find how many games Coach Shaw is suspended for this incident. The fact the player came back and ran his mouth should have seen the clock stopped and #48 ejected.

Oh I'm sure he got a pass on it. No wonder people these days feel they can just assault others with no repercussions.

Side note the official that got hit in this event was one of the officials of the year for 2017.

I still maintain that that game was one of the worst officiated games I've ever seen and it boggles the mind that anyone on that crew was awarded based on that game.

 

It was clear from the outset that Lafayette's "strategy" was to try to get under the Trinity players skin and to a degree it worked. There's only so many times you can take hands through the face mask before you react. The officials never had control of the game.

 

The officials totally lost control of that game and while I'll never condone a player touching an official, the atmosphere the officials allowed to be generated in that game definitely had a causal effect on that.

 

Rumor I've heard is that from the regional finals on this year there will be 7 officials per game, with 2 side judges being added. That will make life interesting on the get back coaches but will they see more going on on the field? If they want someone to see that then they need to add a center judge like colleges.

Off topic sort of but worthy to note. Mayfield played @ #1 Class AA Union City, TN last Friday night and they used 8 officials. It was a big atmosphere with 2 teams from similar size towns 30 minutes apart and both teams highly ranked. Official attendance over 5,000. Often times these out of state games bring out the worst and I applaud TN for nipping it in the bud on the front end. Could this have made a difference in the T-Lafayette Game?
