I had my grandson's bachelor party last night so Im a bit fuzzy but on quick glance I found four teams that have lost the finals three times to the same team. Mayfield beat NCC 3 times, Danville beat Mayfield 3 times, Highlands beat Owensboro 3 times and Trinity beat St. X 3 times.

 

BG has beat Pulaski Co 3 times..

 

Also which program has benefited from class expansion more? Seems like a few, mainly Belfry and Bowling Green. Or was this going to happen regardless of expansion?

 

This will be the second time I've seen you ask this, but to tell you again, Belfry and (especially) Bowling Green have no benefit from expansion.

Belfry has 13 finals appearances but 10 of those are after 2003. They have been in 10 of the last 14 winning 6 of them

This is coming from a unbiased fan of football. As was stated before. BG had been to the finals twice in the 90s. They've seem to exploded onto the finals scene since expansion. Belfry had some mild success prior to expansion, but look what they've done since.

From 1990 to the end of four classes Bowling Green had 5 state championship appearances. They went 1-4.

 

1994 - Loss to CovCath

1995 - Win over Highlands

2005 - Loss to Lexington Catholic

2006 - Loss to Covington Catholic

2007 - Loss to Highlands

 

It is to be noted that these teams with the exception of Lexington Catholic (who BG has defeated 3-4 straight times since that championship game) all reside in 5A with BG.

 

Belfry has a coach with the most wins in KHSAA history, and in my opinion, He would still have the most wins without expansion. Belfry always has talent and I would venture to say if we still had four classes and Belfry was in 2A, they would have the same amount of championships and appearances in the finals due to A+ coaching to compliment A+ players.

Here is a list o the schools with 3+ runner up trophies, there are 26 schools with 2 and 46 with 1 not included in the list.

 

Interesting note, all but 1 team to have 5 or more runner up trophies have won multiple titles.

So that's 24 trips in 44 years. And I must say once you get used to winning, the old saying runs true "Losing hurts more than winning feels good." I don't know why it has to be like that but it is the truth.

Not that it matters but 2007 was the first year of the expanded 6 classes.
