Great Win!! Simply put, we won the game.... I was on on the 96 team and all I remeber is win or loss (luckily we won most of the time and its 10 years later). As far as coach or parent request for the trucks, I think that it was a COMMUNITY DECISION!! I brought my wife to the Raceland game for the first time, who is from Central Kenrtucky (went to Tates Creek and teaches at Henry Clary, both 4a), and she was blown away by the support from the Raceland community. We are talking about big time programs with a history of success. It started by driving in downtown Raceland and seeing all the signs encouraging the players posted on every telephone pole. I kind of teared up because I had told her many stories about the town pf Raceland shutting down for games on Friday night even while I played college football at Centre College. I told her, college football (football everywhere) was a let down in regards to support compared to RACELAND!!! Then her eyes lit up when the trucks came by my house after the Greenup win. After high school, these kids are going to look back and say, remember when those trucks escorted us in after every road win?? If our community wants to escort our team in................who cares. NO ONE In LEXINGTON GETS THIS KIND OF TREATMENT and I think it is a good thing for us!!! I am jealous where I coach now (central Kentucky) in that we don't have 1/4th the community support as Raceland has and we have 25 thousand people in our city. Simply put, if you can argue whether firetrucks should ecsort your team or not, then you don't have many problems!!!! I LOVE RACELAND! Family Tradition....................sing it boys

Firstly beating Ashland is nobody's "super bowl", a great win to be sure against a heavily favored , Larger school. Secondly, we don't have the luxury of playing Ashland at Raceland, so if the kids want to celebrate the win at midfield or for that matter in the middle of central park, then they will. Act like you've been there before, the Ram program has been there plenty of times before, it's Ashland who acts like they've never been there before with how they handled the loss, plenty of sour grapes to go around, coaches fighting with parents, parents fighting with parents, as a result of an opening season loss. A true fiasco post game for Ashland. People should really consider getting their own house in order before telling others how to straighten theirs.

As far as the been there before quote, Ashland has lost a few games to Raceland over the years, but has been on the other side far more. I'm not sure where all of the handling of the loss came from as far as your true fiasco comment goes. Not to take anything away from Raceland, they are a very good football team and deserved to win that game. Ashland received that game as a wake up call, but I don't know where all of this comes from. Was I and the Ashland community disappointed with the loss? No doubt. But I never saw any of what you are talking about. This win meant alot more to Raceland than it would have to Ashland had they won. Now that it's a loss, it meant that we needed to find and corrected our problems and we have for the most part.

These comments are obviously from someone who is acting like they haven't been there before.

The defense and special teams of Raceland left it all on the field, the offense was muddled somewhat by some down right strange play calling. For example the shotgun long snap was mishandled all night, in tight spot after tight spot the shotgun was called and subsequently mishandled for huge losses. The run was super effective early and was just shelved for no apparent reason. The officiating was blatantly lopsided with no apologies, the refs marched Greenup county downfield to their first score. Tackles for a loss were erased by insane ball spots, Raceland players were held (all night long), blocked in the back, and facemasked directly in front of refs and no penalty. True we did turn the ball over but not on that kick return, he was down for a long time before the ball came out. Still district opponent or not, a good win, one that was hard fought and earned in all aspects.

LOL - is that it?

1) The refs were horrible, and they all but cheated Raceland (insane spots, no holding calls, couldn't see obvious facemask infractions, blatantly lopsided calls).

2) The Raceland coaches don't know what they're doing, and almost cost you the game (strange playcalling, gave up on the running game, shouldn't have been in the shotgun).

3) No mention of the strong effort by the opponent, much less giving them any real credit.

Was there was anything about the game that you did like?

Great post OX...after all is said and done, memories ARE what counts. Thank you.

Welcome to BGP! I have to warn you tho, it's addicting!

I think that OX deserves to be named Captain of the Fire Brigade for this weeks game after making such a great post. His feelings are what is felt by most Rams, past and present. As the t-shirt says..... "Pride & Tradition Never Graduate".

Welcome Thuderingox. Good post. I loved watching you guys back in '96. The after game meetings with all the family and friends on the field with coach Ross was something special. I don't know if I've heard the boys sing the song after a win this year. they were still doing it last season though.

The Rams sing "THE SONG" after every win. They just have been waiting until they get inside the locker room to do it. It's a great tradition that has been going on at Raceland for a long time. Hopefully they will be singing it 15 times!

I definitely hope so to. Now that you mention them singing in the locker room, I do think i have heard them.

I think if you go to the Ashland/Raceland Game quotes is where this is coming from. The Ashland fans did seem like they were attacking their team and everyone around it. It was on their own area on BGP. It was only a few and then after the win with Belfrey they seemed to have perked up some.

I definitely hope so to. Now that you mention them singing in the locker room, I do think i have heard them.

Coach Vanderhoof ask some of the team as he was leaving did they sing. It's a family tradition every Friday night and quite often everyday leading into Friday night.

First of all, if I haven't before I want to welcome you to the site Ox!!:thumb: About your post, this is so true I have a cousin in Lexington and he has attended h.s. games there and commented on how the hometown support in Raceland is far more so than for the teams in Lexington that he has seen. I really remember the 96 team as well although I graduated 21 years earlier. I was there every week no matter home or away untill health reasons have prevented me from being there like I want t be. I also loved your line about if all we got to argue about is a fire truck, then we are doing o.k.! If I remember right "family tradition" was a theme of your 96' team. That is the way that it has ALWAYS been in Raceland and I hope always will be. When Raceland has former players/alumni in California tuning in to the web cast that says a lot about Raceland Football and the love for it!

Congrats again on the win this past Friday and good luck this week!!!

I'm sorry you missed the intent of my 1st post.

My wife still gets ticked when I crank up that song when I pass it on the radio. I suppose she'll never understand. BTW, "big brother" didn't fare all that well against "little brother". Ahh, the orange. Don't hate, just enjoy!

It was the theme for many teams prior to that also!:thumb:
