Hope the last statement didnt sound like I was down on the team but it is always a good reality shock when mistakes happen and you come that close to losing. Everyone agrees with the fact it seemed like running the ball was gaining our yardage. Everyone also agrees that our defense was on the field constently. I personally did not think this game would be easy but I also didnt think we would have made so many mistakes. The coaches did an excellent job keeping the boys in the game. Not giving up seemed to be the key tonight. Now lets go back to the mentality game by game. TBF, you are sounding a little bitter about the fire trucks. Parents are going to do what parents are going to do. Please dont lose sight of that. The team follows the coaches. They celebrate when the coaches say this is a game to be proud of.

Just my opinion of course.

I don't know about ALL the penalties. Some seem to be for no reason. But I DO know that the fumble on the kick return in the 4th quarter, shouldnt had been a fumble. The player was on the ground when the ball came out. The ground can't cause a fumble.

I agree, the trucks shouldn't be used until some playoff wins. They weren't there when the basball team made it to the regional finals.

No support here TBF!! If you arrive at the field house after a loss you will see that there are a large group of supporters there to meet the team after a big loss. I have been there and witnessed it many times. There is always a large group meeting the players as they get off the bus with words of encouragement so you are wrong about the non support after a loss.

Do you really think that a win of any kind is not significant? A regional or state title would be great but any win is of great importance no matter who the opponent is whether it be district or non district.

Are you serious? You really believe there is as many fans around supporting the players and coaches after losses and losing seasons as winning games and winning seasons? We discussed the 2000 Nicholas game that you and I were at, did you see a large fan base with us? I'm not naive enough to not know that it is a reality that your fan base swells when you win and shrinks when you lose, as does criticism and praise for coaches follows wins and losses for most fans. But that doesnt mean I have to like it.

As far as significance of wins is concerned, I don't see a regular season non-district win as anything other than a building block to get to where we should all want to be. A regional and state title. The definition of signifcance would be easy for us to find ourselves on the same side of the fence or opposite, yet still believe the same. Everyones philosophy is different, but the outcome of tonights game may or may not have a positive or negative affect on the season. Don't misunderstand my thoughts as not wanting to win, but win or lose tonight our playoff hopes and state title asperations were unaffected. I hope Coach Parker doesnt mind me quoting him, but when we talk, we talk of winning a state championship. And he wants to win everything he competes at, as do I, yet realizes that embracing or being satisfied with a win over a non-district opponent is counter-productive to achieving that ultimate prize.

Let me ask you with a different approach. Do you believe that Boyd County's win of Russell last year was of great importance for either team? Boyd stayed home for the playoffs while Russell carted home the trophy from Papa Johns. Like I said, I want to win. I was disappointed when we were in trouble tonight. But I am not super excited with the win, nor would I have been ready to fire the coaching staff or given up hope of playoff success had we lost.

The defense and special teams of Raceland left it all on the field, the offense was muddled somewhat by some down right strange play calling. For example the shotgun long snap was mishandled all night, in tight spot after tight spot the shotgun was called and subsequently mishandled for huge losses. The run was super effective early and was just shelved for no apparent reason. The officiating was blatantly lopsided with no apologies, the refs marched Greenup county downfield to their first score. Tackles for a loss were erased by insane ball spots, Raceland players were held (all night long), blocked in the back, and facemasked directly in front of refs and no penalty. True we did turn the ball over but not on that kick return, he was down for a long time before the ball came out. Still district opponent or not, a good win, one that was hard fought and earned in all aspects.

We started the firetruck discussion, I thought with a light-hearted note of electing me Chief for a Day. Now everyone is hot under the collar. Maybe we should call them to extinguish the flames.

Here is my last note on this so everyone knows where I stand. I've watched Raceland Sports all my life. And I will always be a Rambler fan win or lose. I've seen bad teams, good teams, really bad teams, really good teams. But what I want is championships. District Titles, Regional Titles, State Titles. I want the kids, the coaches, the community to experience that ultimate prize. And until we start convincing our kids to dream of that ultimate prize, to reach for that ring, we invite mediocrity, settling. We need to start our seasons building towards winning titles, all the while being proud and complimentary of their efforts but pushing them to succeed, to be better, to be a CHAMPION.

I may be the only person on earth who doesnt like the firetruck escort. But to me when you do something every time you win a regular season game when does it stop being special? When we win a state championship will the escort be special if you as a senior have been a part of it 12 times?

My final post on the firetruck issue. Incognito will needle, but we can disagree and remain great friends. How about a milkshake?

First, congrats to the Rams on the win over Greenup.

Second, I have respected Raceland Football since the 1980's and the Bill Tom Era began. That's not a knock on the staff the Rams have now because most that know anything about football will tell you that from the Head Coach to the Assistants Raceland has a professional, talented, and classy staff.

Third, I do agree with TBF in a way. With what I've said previously take this in context...Before Ashland was ever beaten by Raceland Vic Marsh would always tell his teams that this was Raceland's Super Bowl if they win they'll have a parade. Under Bill Tom the Rams were always competitive but Ashland found a way to squeeze out a win until 1991 as Defending AAA State Champs Raceland beat Ashland. If I'm not mistaken the Fire Trucks might have came into play then??? Heck guys you all beat us again this year and if you want Fire Trucks to bring you home then that's your business.

Lastly, Raceland had a good game plan for the Tomcats this year and made it work. No sour grapes here. Sure we wish we could have that one back but we got beat, it happens. Just to add to what TBF said about coach Parker....As the Rams were celebrating at mid-field after this years win at Ashland he said something that was impressive..."act like you've been here before.....shake'em up".... I like that type of thinking!!!

I am serious. I didn't say there was as many there after a loss. I stated there were a large group there. I know because I was there at the bus many nights. It is always the talk of coaches & players to win a state title, any other mindset would be a discrace. I guarantee the coaches and kids are not satisfied with just a W. A win sets the stage as you have stated for the big picture. I bet the coaching staff would have been in a different mood if we had lost last night. A win is important!!PERIOD.Instead of having this discussion about celebrating with a fire truck escort we should be talking about how well the defense played or the great kick returns of our special team players. A new season begins on Monday as I have stated but the win last night should not be downplayed.

All you had to do was make a request ahead of time or call on game day and the ride would have been there.

You are correct about the callon the kick return. They missed that one.

The defense and special teams of Raceland left it all on the field, the offense was muddled somewhat by some down right strange play calling. Welcome to BGP racelandram!!! Glad to have some more Orange blood on board. Nice post and very true.:thumb:

I know you have been an Orange fan all your life. So have I. But you are misinformed if you think that a state championship is not the goal of each coach, player, and fan in Ramland. It is discussed from day one. I played here for 4 years and it was always our goal. The kids are pushed to exceed, they flat out work their tails off 365 days a year. You mention building toward winning titles and then downplay the importance of winnning a regular season game. You can't have one without the other.

I understand what you are saying about the escort but it is not something that is done after every win . I guarantee if the state title is brought home to Raceland there will be more than just a fire truck escort. The kids really enjoy the attention of the escort as I have stated many times, so I have no problem with it as long as the kids benefit from it. Like I told you earlier in a post, once a Ram always a Ram so no hard feelings, we just see things a little different. Does that make one or the other right or wrong? absolutely not. PS...... You began the fire truck discussion not I. I only blew my horn (lol) afterward!!!

Everything that I am reading was totally correct in my opinion. There are some linemen that I know that have the results of being blocked in the back. I saw the facemask. I saw late hits. I saw a Greenup player receive the ball on kickoff and put his leg down and then try to run right in front of the official. I think he actually was going to see if he would let him do it. Why do the officials think they are actually helping a team with lack of calls. We have a friends son that was not hurt on the field at that time but started hurting afterward and is really hurt. Parents say lack of calls. He should be fine by Monday.Congradulations to the Rams. Congrats to the coaches. I hate to play a team and have to play the refs too.

Congratulations to the Rams for the the sweet W over a cross county rival. I drove past your fire trucks on my way home from P West last night. Made me slow down though because I thought something was wrong till I got close.

I'll also be watching for Aaron Pettrey today.

Regarding those fire trucks ...

Use 'em if you got 'em. :D

Congratulations, Rams. :thumb:

We'll see you on Friday, and it should be a good one. Stay healthy.

Props to Raceland for the win. I picked GC to pull an upset and it sounds like the Musketteers came to play last nite. This Raceland team continues to find a way to win and is making a believer out of me. :thumb:

First of all welcome to the site RR! We can't complain about officiating, just have to work through it. Bad calls or no calls are a part of it sometimes. I agree with the Rams defense and special teams play this year. They have been excellent. GCHS came into this game ready to play, they were prepared and should get credit. Raceland was the better team and they made the plays they had to to pull out a victory. Again, welcome to the site.
