racelandram there are a lot of Raceland fans, myself included that respect and admire the Tomcat program for what they have accomplished throuhout the years. They have a great tradition. Ashland always plays with class, their fans treat others with respect and I will return that respect to them. We here at Raceland have a tradition and pride our own and I am proud of that also. Like I said I for one respect and have a lot of friends in "Tomcat land" and even more since I have been a bgp member. All Raceland fans do not feel this way about Ashland and I belive that more than not respect them.

:thumb: Well said Oldrambler:thumb: We owe a thank you to many of the Tomcat fans. They have supported us all season and I for one appreciate it.

Pettreys dad said he was suppose to have all the place kicking duties tonite and not share with the South African kicker. I hope he does well. He's a good kid from a good family.

I have a question for the Ram fans. I will probably be traveling through Raceland tonight after the Ohio State/Texas game. I was wondering if Ohio State wins and Pettrey kicks the game winning field goal, will there be a delay in getting through town? I checked Mapquest and it said there are no delays through Raceland, but there may be an occassional fire truck escort.

Just a note on why a win against Ashland is a great win for Raceland. The rivalry goes to back to when kids were just 8 years old starting out in the JFL. Back then Ashland , Raceland and Westwood Boys Club were the only teams that played each other every week. Right down to the league championship called the Friendship bowl. They have battled against each other their whole football careers.

If the Ohio State team would come to Raceland after the game I'm sure a fire truck escort could be arranged.

I sure it could my friend. I'm sure it could.

My final post on the firetruck issue. Incognito will needle, but we can disagree and remain great friends. How about a milkshake?

TBF, You know I luv ya! I can't speak for boys sports, but as far as the girls go, in the last 5 years, there have only been 2 firetruck escorts; one for basketball and one for softball. I can say that my girls were absolutely thrilled about it. I totally agree that this type of celebration can be over-used. While I was relieved to come out of GC with a "W" last night, I certainly didn't believe we played that great to deserve the escort. Realize that these escorts are probably arranged by parents who are volunteers at or have connections with the local fire departments and most likely the coaches are not asked for approval in advance. Perhaps the coaches should ask to call the shots where the escorts are concerned. OR maybe we can get the Touchdown Club President call you for approval! YEA that's the ticket!

:thumb: Very good point!! and add the fact that Ashland has a great program!! so beating them is always a good thing.

All you had to do was make a request ahead of time or call on game day and the ride would have been there.

It is true. If the trucks weren't there for baseball, then evidently a parent didn't call to request it.

Great Win!! Simply put, we won the game.... I was on on the 96 team and all I remeber is win or loss (luckily we won most of the time and its 10 years later). As far as coach or parent request for the trucks, I think that it was a COMMUNITY DECISION!! I brought my wife to the Raceland game for the first time, who is from Central Kenrtucky (went to Tates Creek and teaches at Henry Clary, both 4a), and she was blown away by the support from the Raceland community. We are talking about big time programs with a history of success. It started by driving in downtown Raceland and seeing all the signs encouraging the players posted on every telephone pole. I kind of teared up because I had told her many stories about the town pf Raceland shutting down for games on Friday night even while I played college football at Centre College. I told her, college football (football everywhere) was a let down in regards to support compared to RACELAND!!! Then her eyes lit up when the trucks came by my house after the Greenup win. After high school, these kids are going to look back and say, remember when those trucks escorted us in after every road win?? If our community wants to escort our team in................who cares. NO ONE In LEXINGTON GETS THIS KIND OF TREATMENT and I think it is a good thing for us!!! I am jealous where I coach now (central Kentucky) in that we don't have 1/4th the community support as Raceland has and we have 25 thousand people in our city. Simply put, if you can argue whether firetrucks should ecsort your team or not, then you don't have many problems!!!! I LOVE RACELAND! Family Tradition....................sing it boys

Welcome Thuderingox. Good post. I loved watching you guys back in '96. The after game meetings with all the family and friends on the field with coach Ross was something special. I don't know if I've heard the boys sing the song after a win this year. they were still doing it last season though.
