KHSAA Eligibility Question

I could be mistaken but I think schools may set those guidelines and not the KHSAA. I have heard many stories about different schools and how they handle grade issues. I honestly have no clue and my post is all speculation.

Possibly.

Varies from school to school, but there are guidelines set up by KHSAA.

According to how many classes they are having for example, our school has (5) classes, some others may have (7), they have to be passing 3 of the 5 at our school according to KHSAA, however I know coaches that do not allow an (F) period.

The KHSAA says that a student must be passing two/thirds of his/her classes and be on continued progress during the school year. For each year, an athlete has to have earned a set amount of credits and be on pace to graduate in 4 years. This is a basic explanation. Each school board has set parameters as far as GPA, but schools can set their own as mentioned above.

Grades are so arbitrary from district to district, school to school, teacher to teacher that it would be impossible to standardize it. We just have to live with a local decision most, if not all, of the time. Really not worth the time to challenge.

Grading scales differ, some allow make up, some don't, some give extra credit, some don't. You are probably getting the point.

This is it. School can raise the expectation but can't be lower than the KHSAA.

Are the grades and eligibility determined week to week? That seems a little weird if so

Every week.

the two schools my son has been at print them weekly. One was a private, the other is public.

The private had a little higher minimum GPA and the student could not have an "F" in their core classes. These higher standards were set by the school above what KHSAA set.

All of the schools that I am familiar with do it week to week.

It is required to do a weekly check.

I know for a fact that a starter on a recent state championship team was ineligible all season academically but they kept playing him.
