OK, how old is Coach Haywood? And when was his first year at Belfry, and has that been his only HC job?

Afte being an assistant at Tates Creek and Meade Co, He coached 9 years at Prestonsburg and was 72-32. He came to Belfry in the fall of 84 when he was about 34 yrs old. He is right about 65 now.

Wow, he was P-burg's coach at 25? Was he 16 when he was doing his assistant work?

I'm gonna say there's no chance in hell anybody even sniffs Coach Haywood's final total, whatever it ends up being. Just incredible.

Are we sure? My man Mike Fields listed every other coach's age in that article 'ceptin Coach Haywood. Makes me wonder. Then again, he may also have come out of the womb diagramming plays. Not ruling that out either. I've always found the guy fascinating.

Coach Haywood has written an informative book on his life and football coaching career named "Faith, Family, and Football."

Not possible, even with 15 win seasons he could not coach long enough to reach that high. Had St. X not booted Mike Glaser, with enough 12/13 win seasons he could maybe make it interesting but I doubt it.

He was doing his student teaching at Tates Creek when he was an assistant there. He was only at Meade Co one year. He is a fascinating guy

1975 - 1983 Prestonsburg Head Coach, Led PBurg to First Playoff appearance. 4 District Titles, 3 Regional Championships.

I saw a video the other day someone posted about that Dudley Hilton Bourbon County team and it was showing all the old interviews and pre-season previews from that season. I remember hearing Dudley say something to the effect of "I just felt like they were getting where they didn't appreciate what they had" (which isn't necessarily some huge narcistitic statement) and I thought to myself, I could never see Haywood even saying that.

A quick glance back at the book and I found a page where he states he was 26 years old in 1976, his second year at Pburg
