I think you're right @ATLCat, the KHSAA has a process to select the location and they are simply abiding by their contract concerning venue and logistics which is clearly a battle, but I think they have done the best they can with what they have been forced to do.

 

But the video THEY THEMSELVES choose that and with apathy I might add. This is just not caring in my opinion as the technology is there and other states already have a road map to follow on how to achieve a quality product.

The video worked great for me last year. I have a hulking Net connection and no one here sharing my bandwidth so I tend to think any issues were on the user end and not the broadcast.

Subscription plans run at $9.95 a month, so you can watch all 6 games for less than 10 bucks (and anything else available on the network).

You know I don't have a huge problem with how the KHSAA has had to handle the Finals Location, working around the WKU stuff, or when they choose to play the different Championships.

 

What I do have a problem with is the embarrassing way they broadcast the Finals and this whole "Pay Per View" thing they are doing.

 

I get it... Kentucky's geography and lack of venues makes it tough to find the right solution to make everyone happy. I get it that scheduling 6 different games is difficult. I even get it that this is not Texas and you aren't going to average 10,000 fans per game.

 

Yet I can watch the freakin' Iowa State Championships broadcast live on Fox Sports. I can watch the KYMSFA broadcast on Prepspin in sparkling HD Quality. I can even watch specific programs do a HD broadcast or replay... yet the State of Kentucky cannot get a live televised or free HD Stream?

 

Maybe I am spoiled? The Georgia High School Sate Finals are a thing of beauty. They are played at the Georgia Dome (mind you at less than 10% capacity usually for those wondering), they are well organized, broadcast in HD on the Georgia PBS Station, have AMAZING production value, and readily available for replay in HD as well. I don't have an issue with the crews broadcasting the game, in fact msot do an admirable job, but even before KY switched to the current set-up the production value of the video looked like amateur hour. The shot set back far from the field, a lack of camera views and replay angles, grainy quality video, just simply put... a second rate product.

 

The new set-up at least improves the video quality a little (if the stream works properly of course), but it still a crappy product that you are now paying for.

 

With the KHSAA understanding the issues of geography and the number of people physically unable to attend games that are over 4 hours away, you would think they would want to offer their grandest stage up for more people could enjoy it.

 

We pay good money for that, but its worth it.

I paid for the games last year and the service was excellent (no I am not getting a kickback or working with the KHSAA on this - I am just stating the truth) and I am definitely doing it again this year.

Channel 30 in Nashville shows a game in Middle Tennessee every Friday night and broadcasts all 8 state title games. Seems like a station in Louisville, Lexington or Bowling Green could do something like that.

But I promise everyone if I have problems with the broadcasts I will definitely let everyone know.

 

And if you don't want to pay remember the KHSAA is offering free audio of all the games and we will be providing live updates of all the games here on BGP so it will be Free to All if you logon to BGP for your State Football Final Coverage.

I paid for the monthly subscription last year, watched both the Beechwood and NCC play on my chromecast on TV (streamed thru TV Cast app on Iphone). I did not have any issues with skipping or freezing, but much like guru said I have lots of bandwith, so I do not think it was an issue with the broadcasts.
