What I was hoping for was an intelligent discussion regarding a seemingly unique situation for a POTUS.

 

We have quotes from a person who is an actual ethics attorney. He has some expertise in the area.

 

So why don't we try that route since this thread has nothing to do with HRC, Presudent Bush, nor the folks that interviewed the guy.

I hear you Clyde. It is a unique position that Trump finds himself in and I am curious how he will handle it. I obviously do not want the President to be able to benefit financially from being president while he/she is in office. I don't know the answer but Trump needs to make sure that he does not "appear" to be benefiting because we all know the MSM will be ALL OVER THIS.

 

What makes this messy is if he gives his entire ownership in his business interests to his kids. While I think most would agree that his kids should be able to profit from the business while their father is President, some will say that should not even happen. But by putting the businesses in a blind trust, does that mean the kids lose business control? That does not seem right to me as they are basically running the businesses now.

1. So career diplomats/politicians think staying at a Trump branded hotel will curry favor from the new President, is that what we are seeing in this article?

2. Since President Elect Trump owns hotels, it is wrong for anyone in government to stay at them?

 

A. Does he get a daily print out of everyone that spent the night in one of his properties? Wouldn't anyone dropping that info upon meeting the President be seen to be a suck up? I'd like to think that if anyone on the Government Dime spent a night in a $20K suite, Trump or other that the President would have a negative reaction to it.

B. Past Presidents for the most part have put investment portfolios into a blind trust, do we have a similar situation where the incoming President has such a wide range of operational businesses? How do you take a hotel or golf course and put it into a blind trust?

Issue is regarding foreign diplomats.

No.

This is really one of those things I am not concerned about. He probably should give his business decision issues and management to his kids, however he is going to profit either way. I for one, don't think he can be bought, he already has PLENTY.

 

This would be a waste of time and resources, although probably unethical. Kinda like HRC emails in my mind.

This is a non-issue. These foreign diplomats aren't going to gain favor by staying at Trump Hotel. Also, the "fair market value" is decided by who. The suite in question is $20,000 a night already. The value of the room is whatever people are willing to pay. This whole issue is a stretch.

I'd think pretty low of any President that could be swayed based on where a foreign dignitary spent the night.
