Thank you for this post. I agree with all you've said here. I am also looking for the root of the anger. I agree with Mr. Lunto that this has been growing for far longer than this election cycle. I believe he mentions the 2000 election. I don't personally remember the mood then. But in retrospect, that election has been mentioned a lot over the course of time as an example that supports a position.

 

I remember 2000. We had uncertainty as to the office of President for a month or so. And it brewed. People expect a winner named the day after. We had courtrooms, hanging chads, media collusion, accuations of 'stolen election' (i.e. 'rigging'). And we had 24x7 cable news. So it was constant, hour by hour. People just wanted it over.

And in reality, the 24x7 nature of cable news is now compounded by social media. And, while people think "fake media" is a new phenomenon, it isn't. It just has proliferated via social media.

 

I also think the relative anonymity of the internet has eroded our sensibilities. It's a lot easier to be hateful in words and/or tone when you don't have to face those you are talking to.

 

There is a lot happening/has happened to render us so angry. In the end, we created this angry environment, and only we can undo it.

You proved my point that there are other people as smart as Habib on this board. There are others as well, some may be smarter. That's my main point. A lot of people on here challenge my thought process, many do so more than Habib for me, and I'm talking about those I disagree with as well as those I do.

And I'm not discrediting anything most people say I just think Habib does a magnificent job of saying what I want to say without being condescending, inciteful, antagonizing and I feel like he makes BGP a much better place when he posts.

The logic is befuddling to someone of my limited intellectual capacity.

He is saying the things causing fear and he is putting the people in place to make his words become truths.

What's confusing about that to you? Trump made promises that won't likely materialize. Obama made promises that didn't materialize. It's the same thing. How are you missing that?

Yes. Very confusing. Especially when I still believe Obama did a fantastic job as POTUS. His promises that those on the right claim to have never materialized don't bother me any. He still supported unions and took good care of us. I honestly don't remember his other promises other than healthcare. Which he delivered on as well. I just find it funny that folks say Trump didn't say this or Trump won't do this and low and behold Trump has indeed said it and is indeed working to make sure he can follow through on it. If he breaks his promises then the whole country benefits so I hope he continues lying at a 70% clip.
