I watched the rankings release for the first time ever because it was on between the two basketball games my friends and I were watching during a card game.

 

It's... not a good show. Unless they trick me by putting it on during something I want to actually watch again, this is the last time I'll be listening to Joey Galloway not be good at his job.

Ohio State struggled mightily with Northwestern. And vaunted Michigan just lost to a team that was 5-4 at the time. Louisville might have played close, but they didn't lose to Duke or Virginia.

That's one game for OSU. Louisville has looked subpar in 3 games.

In the end, I'm not worried about it. Definitely not enough to argue about it.

 

The committee has made clear they value wins against top opponents and Louisville just didn't get the opportunities. The ACC has 14 teams; 5 of them are .500 or worse. Thanks to the accidents of scheduling, Louisville has played all five. Got Virginia and Duke in the crossover from the other division. So it goes.

 

Like I said in a post above, I'll be thrilled going back to the Orange Bowl for the first time since 2006.

 

Just keep winning. Everything will shake out as best it can.

Michigan has 3 wins against top 10 teams, with at least one more opportunity and a potential 2nd matchup with Wisconsin.

 

Washington has 2 top 25 wins and another two still on the table.

 

I'm not saying Louisville isn't a top 4 team, they very well could be, but their resume doesn't stack up with those ahead of them.

 

These rankings were good news for Washington, Wisconsin, Penn State, and Colorado IMO.

Maybe the committee is sandbagging and will put Louisville in at the last minute… for dramatic effect.

 

I mean, Louisville has Lamar Jackson, how could you not want him as part of your playoff product?

 

(lol – kidding… the reality set in that Louisville would not get in while watching the Wake game. The announcer went on and on about Louisville not meeting the eye test, all the while our eyes were watching the Cards’ intercept, sack and score 3 touchdowns during this time…lol)

This is it in a nutshell. As I said a few days ago, UL's best win is a narrow loss to Clemson. I still think UL is better, but such is life with these rankings.

 

My theory on the rankings is that the committee has shown their hand that they are now fully committed to putting two teams into the Final Four from the B1G: the winner of tOSU/UM, and PSU/Wisconsin winner if it shakes out to be that in the B1G title game.

OSU's resume speaks for itself though if they knock off Michigan. Nobody has a better resume except Alabama and if OSU didn't have a 1 in the loss column it would be debatable who has the better resume. Wisconsin as a Big 10 champion has a better resume than UofL on paper despite having 1 more loss. UofL is way better than Wisconsin, but that's merely from eye test. There are a lot of analytical people in that room who will want numbers to back up what there eyes tell them. The only true "football guy" in the room is Barry Alvarez and while he is supposed to abstain from voting when it comes to Wisconsin, his voice carries a lot of weight.

Yep. Colorado proved me wrong. It's Colorado who hasn't been good since the early 90's excuse me for thinking they weren't very good. That's a great win for Michigan now.

Tell me what Michigan has done to deserve to be a heavy favorite in this game over a team with 2 top 10 wins (at the time) when Michigan hasn't played a team with a heartbeat yet? This should be a pick 'em game.

 

Sorry but Colorado and Penn State don't help your argument. This isn't the 1990's, which also happens to be the last time Michigan was a national title contender.

They just brought it up on Mike & Mike....If Colorado wins out, do they end up leapfrogging Louisville? It might be a stretch, but man that resume would be infinitely better than that of Louisville.
