I'm curious to what happens to Penn St if they win out including Big 10 Championship. Can they sneak in if Michigan beats Ohio St?

I've seen a few places where people expect Michigan to be in the top 4. Sour grapes on my end, but I don't see how you could justify them over Louisville.

 

The good news is that the OSU/Michigan problem will sort itself out for UofL. I'd be ready to riot if a two loss team, even if it's the Big Ten champ, got in over UofL.

Lots of ground left to cover. For me, SEC and B1G are now limited to 1 participant. Bama gets in unless they lose to Auburn AND SEC Champ (and maybe even if they do). I don't think any SEC Champ gets in unless it is Bama. (The SEC East is garbage.)

 

B1G West is assured of being a 2 loss team. Wisconsin would have an argument since they have 2 very good losses. Question whether committee would take 1 loss OSU or 2 loss Wisconsin if Wisconsin beats Penn St. in B1G Champ. If they take both of them over a 1 loss UofL or Washington, that's weak sauce.

 

While I understand the argument that Clemson beat UofL head to head, it was at Clemson, ridiculously close AND UofL has no other losses to examine. You have to ding Clemson something for a bad loss AT HOME to Pitt. They also should have lost to NC State at home and only won because of an NC State failure to execute as opposed to something Clemson did to EARN the win.

 

My guess is below. I don't agree with it, but I think that's where it will be.

 

1 - Bama

4 - Clemson

5 - UofL

6 - Washington

Not necessarily. I think you have quite a few scenarios where 2 Big 10 teams can get in if Ohio State beats Michigan. Let's say Washington loses another game which seems like it's within the realm of possibility at this point. Then you have SEC Champ Alabama, ACC Champ Clemson, then most likely a 1 loss non conference champ Ohio State, then you pick between a 1 loss non conference champ UofL and 2 loss conference champions like Wisconsin/ Penn State, PAC 12 champ, and Big 12 Champ. Another scenario would be if Clemson and Washington lose another game and Ohio State beats Michigan. Then you have Alabama, Ohio State, then presumably UofL, then you have 2 loss champs from the Big 10, PAC 12, and Big 12 fighting for that 4 spot and I see know way the Big 10 doesn't get a second team in that way. But I agree on the SEC they've eliminated themselves from getting 2 teams in.

I think Louisville stands no chance of getting in IF Clemson wins out. Two things factor into that !0 is obvious head to head 2) out of conference win over Auburn is better than any win Louisville has or will have against out of conference.

 

Houston falling off the map killed Louisville. I believe they are going to have to pick up one out of conference game in the future against and upper tier team in the 5 major conferences. Maybe that have corrected that, I haven't seen their schedule in future years.

 

Ohio State beating Oklahoma also helps them against Louisville. Louisville may be the 2nd best team in the nation, however, I just don't see them making it due to schedule mostly.

 

Louisville is just starting to be able to get those games. No top-tier team used to schedule Louisville on the road or at a neutral site because there was a good chance you'd take a loss to a C-USA/Big East team.

 

The fact that Houston was supposed to be good at all was a surprise given how long ago this series was scheduled.

 

In the coming seasons Louisville is playing Alabama and Norte Dame in the non-conference.

 

But that's not what's killing Louisville's SOS this year. It's that Louisville's two crossover opponents in the other division are the two worst teams: Duke and Virginia.

 

What can you do?

For the Louisville fans I really wish Houston hadn't tanked after being ranked high early in the season. A win over a top 5 Houston team would have solidified Louisville's spot in the playoffs IMO. I think they can still get in, but it will be much tougher now. This is exactly why we need an 8 team playoff, Louisville is good enough to beat anyone in the country when they're playing their A game. Unfortunately, they may not even get that opportunity due to a close loss in Death Valley.

They won't make the B1G championship game if Michigan beats Ohio State unless Indiana beats Michigan this week.

All five teams had their shot to secure their bids and blew it. Committee will arbitrarily choose three of the four best teams (because we can probably all agree Bama is in).
