Which is just irritating. The Big Ten West is perfect case for why I hate early season rankings.

 

Nebraska got a ton of credit early on for beating a lousy Oregon team. That turned Nebraska into a great midseaon win for several B1G teams. Wisconsin got loads of credit for beating an LSU team that would fire their coach just weeks later and a Michigan State team that was top ten at the time that would go on to win precisely zero more games until Rutgers last week.

 

College football doesn't afford an equitable distribution of schedule and we should start talking about these things like we're smart people that can read statistics.

ESPN just reported the same thing. Also said the committee will take note of the injury. The back up QB has a lot of experience, not sure of his stats.

Also, here is another thought that just goes to show that the committee can rationalize just about any team in a given range however they like.

 

In the AP poll Troy is ranked 25. If the committee wants to push Clemson toward the playoff, they could throw them in at 25 as well and that is another top 25 win. If they want Clemson out, Troy isn't ranked, and that is nothing more than a 6 point win in a home money game to push the Clemson has barely scraped by narrative.

I'm really trying not to be hypocritical. It is only a couple years ago that my team was in the AAC and I couldn't get over the fact that I knew they could compete, but didn't have the chance still.

 

Nobody knows how good Troy is. I highly doubt any voter has watched a second of any of their games or a second of any of their opponents outside of when any of those teams have played a major conference team. I mean I don't even know how good Western Michigan is, but I know the MAC is a huge step up from the Sun Belt.

 

My point is I have no idea how good Troy is, and I argue nobody else really does. Just that the committee could easily use a team like them to bolster their decision whichever way they want it to go. With the small sample size and schedule disparity, it is such a shot in the dark.

It should be taken into consideration if it was a conference game against someone not named Kansas or Iowa State.

Do we really believe that the committee would take two teams out of four that didn't even play for their conference title, much less win it? I'm not saying those wouldn't be best 4, but I could see them not having the stones for that.
