I would be shocked if Trump picks Romney for SOS. After what Romney said about him during the primaries I cannot believe that Trump would pick him for that slot. They also disagree on some foreign affairs issues as well. I heard earlier today that he may want to talk to Romney about being the head of the VA...to try to clean up that hot mess. That would make more sense to me in that Romney does know how to turn around things.

 

Not surprisingly I am very happy with his picks so far. And for those who say he is picking people loyal to him...no freaking kidding. He won...that is what people who win do...whether they are R or D...

This is even more extreme than it seems. This isn't a case of a Garland where the Senate decided not to vote, and it isn't even a Bork where the judge didn't receive enough votes. Sessions didn't even get out of the Judiciary Committee. This occurring prior to Bork where every Reagan appointee was being pushed through with little debate. I believe he is one of two ever to not make it out of Committee.

It will take 3 Rs to block the Sessions nomination.

Anybody who voted to confirm either Eric Holder or Loretta Lynch and votes against Jeff Sessions should be ashamed of themselves. I would much prefer Cruz over Sessions, but Sessions is qualified for the position, he seems to be an honest man, and if that is who Trump wants in the position, then he should have no problem being confirmed.

 

Before Democrats start trying to block Trump's white appointees by reflexively portraying all of them as racist, sexist, homophobes, they should consider how many Senate seats they will be defending in 2018 in states where Trump won. Sessions can not possibly do a worse job as Attorney General than Obama's choices have done.

Lets just keep Holder and Lynch. Appoint them both as Co-AG's. Then lets keep all of Obamas staff cause its apparent none of the Republicans are good enough, so we can keep these whiny Dems happy and maybe off suicide watch. NOT.

He has an over 20 year Congressional career since then. I would think EVERYONE has changed in the last 30 years to some extent...I know I have...

 

He will be confirmed but I imagine the Dems will try to damage him as much as possible in the process...just the way politics are.

I don't know what is in the guy's heart regarding racism. Only he and his family and closest friends do. I agree with him politically as I am pretty conservative on fiscal issues and he is too. He was the first R on the Trump train so it made sense he would be rewarded. When I hear Sessions talk, I typically agree with what he is saying so I am good with him getting the AG dig.

I will say this. Too many on the left constantly throw out the "racist" label. It numbs everyone to the label even when it has the look of being correct. That will help Sessions a tad.

 

Of course, saying that you don't think if a man grabbed a woman by her genitals is really sexual harassment may be a problem. Older quotes and cases will be brought up as well. Saying the KKK was alright until they advocated for marijuana will not help - even if he gets people to believe he was joking.

Totally agree. When Dems throw around the racist, homophobe, etc lines so often about people they disagree with, I think it makes people just discount them...crying wolf too often. I know I do. That is actually sad because sometimes the Dems are right about the people they accuse of being racist but many just ignore them because they call almost everybody they disagree with racist, etc.

 

The ironic thing is that Harry Reid (maybe my least favorite politician ever) has made things easy for Trump getting his appointees confirmed since he changed the Senate rules in 2013 with the nuclear option that means only 51 votes are needed confirm and not 60. You can argue the merits of this but it is so cool that a total tool like Reid actually did something that is helping Trump now. Reid has to be really upset about that...at least I hope he is.
