As Capital City Buccaneers founder, Alexandra Diaz, stepped away from the field, No. 84 made his way onto the field. One parent in attendance named Kevin Stockwell told ABC 6 News that he could spot facial hair, and arm tattoos on the player in question. “If I was there, that would never ever happen because safety of these kids is more important to me than anything. That's not how I run my program,” Diaz told NBC 10 News. “It hurts me, it hurts the community, (and) it hurts the children because a lot has been ripped from them.”

Everyone is killing the coach, and they should. HOWEVER...what kind of 19 year-old is ok with being part of this stunt? How much of a loser can this guy be?

Well there is no chance I'd ever actually do it...But two years ago when I coached a middle school team, the thought of how I could still dominate that level crossed my mind lol

Was this a paid position? Can you get fired from a volunteer spot?

I know of at least one middle school that has used Soph's on 7th grade team in the past. These things happen probably a lot more than most of us realize.

 

Why would a middle school team use kids that even in the middle school any longer? What possible purpose would it serve? I see no logic at all behind such a thing.

 

Agree it may happen more than I realize. Silly me thinking everyone plays by the rules, and teaching kids that cheating is okay is a bad thing.

There are some programs that are all about winning, no matter at what cost.

 

A former coworker told me that the particular team I'm talking about, her sons played for them. When her 7th grade son was injured during a game, a coach asked his high school aged brother if he wanted to take his place in the 2nd half of a game. She said her boys though 4 years different in age were of similar size and an out of town team would have never known the difference.

 

She also said coaches told them that all other teams did this, so they were just leveling the playing field.

 

It is a shame what people will do.

No, she stopped her son from playing. But said it happened often. I had a kid that worked where I did even told me he played JV and middle school both when he was in high school, said coaches used him because he was short for his age.

It's happened in a southeastern Kentucky high school back in the early 1980s. A player that had graduated and was in his 20's played but was exposed either during the game or shortly afterwards. I believe the coach was fired.

 

Evidently that type of thing happened occasionally back in the day. Comedian Carl Hurley said his old high school, Hazel Green, had a football team for a few years. He said they were once playing a school from Harlan County and he was knocked senseless by a tackle. He said when he got his head cleared he saw a teenager on the sideline shouting, "Hit him again Daddy"!!! :lol2:

Of course Carl was telling it as a part of his comedy routine, I suppose.
