I stand by what I said 100%. I called no one out by name and I did not say that some of my 11 would not be guys already on the field. Playing defense is more about heart, desire and "want to" and I do not see that from all 11 guys playing on the defensive side of the ball.

 

I will tell you one thing. Unless you know all these kid's you can't say that AND SHOULDN'T. You have a lot of hate for the D but have nothing bad for the O? Really? You don't see a problem on both sides? I won't hide behind my name. I've told you who my sin is and he is #52 plays in the very front. I see him EVERY GAME GIVEN HIS ALL AND THEN SOME. So you really need to stop. If you have all this time to analyze the D line why don't you go help them out? I'm sure the coaches would love all the help they can get.

I was listening online and they said the scoreboard went to 1st down. Then CCH stuffed the next play and took over on downs.

 

I assume the Birds staff knew it wasn't first down??? Hopefully, the sideline markers as well as the official clearly indicated it was not a first down.

If you had watched the CovCath JV game today, you saw CovCath get called on a PI and instead of a 40+ yard gain, HHS got only 15 yards out of it.

 

It is the only penalty that the Defense is smart to take and you get very little loss out of it!

I keep reading that the players were outmatched and changes should be made to the defense. Does anyone think wholesale changes to the defensive formations would help stop the run? Since size seems to be an issue, would a 3-4 defense or a 3-3-5 make the defense more competitive? I have not seen highlands play this year so maybe they already do this, but this is really where if the coaches think the best 11 are out there, they could help their players out by changing up the scheme.

Had it been 25 yards or 20 yards to get the first down it would have been 15 but still not first down. Repeat the down. That's where people get confused.

 

I think the only automatic first downs in high school are roughing penalties.

Sideline markers and refs clearly signaled 3rd and (on the next play) 4th down.

I would still send my kids to Ft Thomas Highlands any day.
