Congrats to SL, I admit I was wrong on this one. I thought that Corbin would run all over the SL defense. Also, congrats to Logan Baker, a great kid who has just been waiting for his chance to show what he can do on the field.

You can't work any harder than Coach Jewell does and he expects the same from his players. He runs a class program and the kids that play for him learn a lot more than just football that will help them long after football is over.

 

It would not surprise me to see Corbin simplify the offense a little. They run a lot of different sets with multiple formations out of each set, which may lead to some of the confusion that you see from the offense. They are starting 4 sophs and 6 juniors on the offensive side...........so it may just take a little more time for them to get comfortable in what they are doing.

Nope no heat. Why would he get heat? He can't play the game for them. They can't take the heart he has use it in the game and turn it back in at the end. They will be fine, they will have to find a leader to step up, and find that heart and play with a little redhound pride

Well the mountainmutt was in Shelbyville watching the Colonels demonstrate why they should not be a 4A team. Whitley basically got the poop beat out of them in every aspect of the game. Somebody mentioned a field goal above. What a funny funy joke. Mountain football is taking licking this year and one of the biggest reasons is kicking. Something has to change or us mountain boys just ain't going to win on a state basis.(even my favorite state contender Corbin as they have represented the heck out of us mountain boys for a long time on the stae level with good old smashmouth football) When you can not kick an extra point much less a field goal and you continually losre the field position game by 20 or 30 yards, you are going to have a hard time winning even if you are knocking the snot out of your opponent on every play.

 

The Mutt ain't going to back down, he has knows basically every kid playing for both Corbin and South. The Mutt has coached and socialized over the past decade with almost every family involved with both schools. No disrespect to South (the South folks know how difficult the county has made it to develop football players in Laurel County. Heck, anyone involved with Laurel County sports knows politics has cripaled Laurel County football. For the sake of good sports there should be a London independent and a Laurel County High School; a debate for another day).

 

I stand by my original thoughts. Corbin should have powered South out of the stadium by three or four touchdowns. Why does Campbell not get the ball 12 times a game. What am I missing?

There is a lot of truth in what you say, but some of it also has to do with matchups.

 

1. Rock had no passing game and Corbin's run defense is very good.

2. South Laurel's run defense is bad and Mercer has a very good running game.

3. Mercer will run up against a good run defense eventually and will have to prove that they can do something else.

I played on a team that beat Corbin 34-0 and I thought we had done something, I'm amazed the Corbin fans haven't went totally bananas. Surely you will get better this year.

The bottom line is that for the 4th straight season, South beat Corbin. It was a very competitive game, right down to the wire. Both teams have a lot to work on but I expect they will get better.

Call me crazy, but I think the Hounds would give Mercer a pretty good game. We may find out come playoff time.

You may know sumthin ol; Bubba does not about them Red Dogs. Maybe Tiki Barbar is going to be suitin up in the next few weeks. Mercer has been a lookin purty good. Hopefully, the Hounds will get to tackle them Titans in the playoffs. That there would mean that Corbin has advanced a few rounds, since Mercer will make a run deep into the post season.

stats have Campbell getting to carry the ball 11 times against South. it's not the 12 you wanted, but just a carry short. He also had a reception, so there is your 12 touches.

To be honest, those stats didn't didn't need to be in the story...they didn't decide the outcome. He didn't lead the team in rushing Sanders did. But Campbell is a heckuva player, though.
