South Laurel 21 Corbin 20

Featured Replies

The ball didn't hit anyone in the head....the receiver was supposed to run a slant route and kept running and Logan Baker picked the ball off. The ball didn't hit anyone.

That's exactly the way I saw it. I really don't think that the WR knew the play, which seemed to happen all too often tonight.

I would have liked to see Corbin go ahead and run it in when they got down on the 10 yard line...............two runs should have done it.

i totally agree. they should have

ran it.

I had mentioned last week the players seem to not know their roles or the plays.....but I was ridiculed.....It is nice to hear someone else echo the sentiment.

So Corbin plays the #1 team in the mountains to a 2-0 game. South Laurel gets beat by a AA team 53-6 that goes by the name of Mercer Co. Corbin gets beat by South Laurel, and that leads me to a few obvious assumptions.

1. Mountain teams are down this year.

2. Mercer Co. is the team to beat in 2A.

3. Mercer Co. would be VERY hard to beat in 3A, too.

The last one is debatable, but I stand firm on the first two.

There was several times when the offense looked confused tonight.

I thought that Corbin's defense dominated the second half and except for the TD that was caused by the special teams fumble deep in Corbin territory, shut out the Cards. They had a couple of blown assignments that led to big plays in the second quarter, but overall played well.

Turnovers killed the Hounds also, two INT's at the goalline and the fumble inside their own 20 that led to the TD. Good teams don't make these kind of mistakes though.

Any stats Les?

I agree with the above. On the play, maybe I saw it wrong. Yes French should have been paying attention but I'll let this one slide. Its early inthe year and he's new to things. Miscommunication seems to be one of the main problems. It's just a crawl before you walk type thing. They'll catch on but they definately need to get the WR and QB on the same page. It's not a big deal as in difficult to fix but it needs fixed badly.

I too thought the D played extremely well. Bowling had his world rocked time after time tonight.

Seven sacks for 66 yards.

At least French is finally in a game...he is a nice athlete....he saved a TD on the return in the first half. There is always next week. Hope the Hounds bounce back soon.

There is a lot of truth in what you say, but some of it also has to do with matchups.

1. Rock had no passing game and Corbin's run defense is very good.

2. South Laurel's run defense is bad and Mercer has a very good running game.

3. Mercer will run up against a good run defense eventually and will have to prove that they can do something else.

He made a nice play, even though he was being held, which I believe was called.

Campbell ran the ball very well..........maybe should have gotten it a few more times as he was good for pretty good chunks of positive yardage every time he touched it.

I think the results in the 2A state championship games the past few years would contradict point #3. Nobody made Belfry or Russell do anything else. You can get away with being one-dimensional in 2A.

South is way down this year. I'm not sure who is left on their schedule, but I can't see them winning very many more games this year.

Nice - bashing a team you just lost to.

You may be right, neither one met up with a good run defense, at least not in the title games.

Corbin's cashen 5-of-22 for 2 interceptions and 73 yards.
