South Laurel 21 Corbin 20

To be honest, those stats didn't didn't need to be in the story...they didn't decide the outcome. He didn't lead the team in rushing Sanders did. But Campbell is a heckuva player, though. Think your coverage should be more detailed, That is the reason i buy your paper. The london paper was'nt to bad.

Coverage was as detailed as much it needed to be.

We had the boxscore with quarter scoring and who scored and a whole lot longer story than the other paper.

As for thourough coverage, no other paper in the Tri-County had reports on all seven teams with only two people and a stringer, says something good about us.

I need your secret on how to be at more than one place at a time.

The other area papers(with the exception of the News Journal) would never consider covering any team other than the one located within their town.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks 4CHS,

I don't think people realize how hard it is, but I do appreciate the nice comments. Like I said, Campbell had a good game and is a great kid, but I left Randy McQueen's stats out, too, not for any reason ebcause they weren't important for the game story and ebcause Quinn led the team in rushing.

By the way 4CHS, there is no secret, I'm just fortuntate to ahve some nice coaches that will return phone calls whether they win or lose.

I remember when McQueen and Campbell played on the same little league baseball team in Corbin. That was a set of flamethrowers at the little league level.:flame:

I remember those days. Both kids are great individuals.

Bring back Burchette.........lol

The man is a genius at the weights.

He was probably the biggest key to the powerhouse teams of the '70's.

Call me crazy, but I think the Hounds would give Mercer a pretty good game. We may find out come playoff time.

Okay...you're crazy! (j/k)

Mercer wins handily right now.

Why cover a story the papers' readers aren't interested in? If the Sentinel-Echo were doing great business in Manchester or Mt. Vernon, I could understand covering schools in those areas.

I realize that it is basically marketing, and if the businesses in other areas are not buying the advertising then it does not pay to cover those areas.

I sure was not trying to put the Sentinel down because they do a very good job covering the Laurel Co. area.

I just have to give kudos to the Times-Tribune, their staff and management for expanding beyond what use to be basically a Corbin paper, especially considering some of the townspeople kind of resented it.

Thanks 4CHS for the positive comments.

Les I may not always agree on somethings you print but I think you do a good job at what you do and I enjoy reading your sports. And you even cover middle school football we thank you.

I don't wanna be calling anyone names here, .. but after seeing Mercer and seeing Corbin, ... I would call that crazy talk. ;) Maybe later as the young Hounds continue to improve, but right now, Mercer is one of the best teams I have seen all season. I guess they can throw the ball, but when I saw them, they didn't have to. They are LOADED. Both Corbin and South Laurel still have a lot of work to do, but I expect them both to improve greatly over the coming weeks.

Corbin would have to improve a lot to get an opportunity to even play Mercer Co.(state semifinal is the earliest they can meet unless I'm mistaken).

If the rest of Corbin's team catches up to their run defense, they could possibly make it that far.

Corbin would have to play flawless. And I mean flawless. Mercer will run the ball until you show you can stop it. With our backfield that is very tough. They can throw the ball and they will go deep on you. Mercer scored 53 points on SL and the starters came out 5 minutes into the 3rd qtr. Where corbin would have trouble would be moving the ball on offense. Mercer's Defense is fast and athletic. They will light you up.
