MountainThunder Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Great clutch play by #29 Logan Baker (SR) for South Laurel with Corbin on the SL 13 yard line poised to win the ball game! I guess the streak continues for the Cards, .... 4 in a row! I will say this, ... the SL team deserves better than the 2 homers who do their radio broadcast. Totally uninformed. 1. Every big play for Corbin they were convinced that their was a hold, block in the back, etc. 2. Described Cashen as a QB who 'cannot pass' and is an 'option QB with his speed'. He had an off night tonight, but apparently they have never seen him play before. Oh well, that is why I have a hard time listening to SL games because of these guys. But I had to listen to the end of this game. GREAT WIN FOR THE CARDS!!! :dancingpa
Les Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 I missed the game (prediction wise), but where is mountainmutt, he missed it a whole lot more than me?
Mastermind Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 So did a lot of others........especially me and the diehard fans. I thought if there was ever a year we would beat South it would be this one. My buddy Mountainmutt may be heading toward old Rocky Top about now.
DADDY CAT Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 I thought that Corbin would regroup and take this one. It's deja vu all over again this year.
KIDD 1 Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 My guess is Mountainmutt is on his way home from Shelbyville and wondering all the way home what went wrong tonight for the Colonels.
WILDMAN Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 No doubt I think Corbin should have won this game but regardless of the record, this is a whole different team than last year. Last year, Corbin was just bad. This year Corbin is in the process of adjusting. I think with Sanders, Martin, and Campbell the running game will be unbelievably effected once they get used to live action. The passing game is where the adjusting will come from. Thankfully they have Cashen who is probably one of, if not the best passer in the state. He lost his main three targets from last year. There is 1500 yards you have to replace. He has the talent out wide now but they are green. 3 of his 4 main threats are new to high school ball. Once they get their timing down and mutual confidence, Corbin will be fine. As I said last year, Corbin was just not a good football team out of the gate. This year, Corbin should be 3-0 or at least 2-1 if they play to their talents. A bounce here, a headier play on a kick return there, or a more confident recieving core and corbin could be 3-0. Just take my word that this team's record is fools gold right now. They are legitamately a sleeping giant and when they get clicking, they will be hard to stop. My hats off to South Laurel. Poor Bowling took probably the worse beating of his life but he hung in there and kept on going. The big key for the Cards was their fullback.

Congrats to SL...Only time will tell if the Hounds will be fine...I thought this was the year the Hounds would get SL, IMO this was not a good SL team...
LowManWins Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 The best thing about this win is that Logan Baker is a fine young man and a team player. He has been in the shadows of older and perhaps more talented players the past two years, but there is not a harder worker or more respected player on the team. He has worked his tail off to become a better player and it showed tonight. To be the hero in the Corbin game is a great moment for him and his family. I am so happy for Logan and the rest of the Cards. 4 in a row over the Hounds!!!!
4chs Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Congrats to SL...Only time will tell if the Hounds will be fine...I thought this was the year the Hounds would get SL, IMO this was not a good SL team... South is way down this year. I'm not sure who is left on their schedule, but I can't see them winning very many more games this year.
Jim Schue Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Lot better effort on defense for SL tonight, especially in the second half. Poor Cashen needs some help.
WILDMAN Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Poor Cashen needs some help. That is the truth. I will admit that the OL gave him much more time tonight than the past two weeks. If they can build on that with the seemingly solid ground game, we may be onto something. However, the recievers need to step it up. If they want it and show confidence, Clint will get them the ball. They just have to keep going towards the ball and cut down on the mental mistakes. For example, you have to be ready and LOOK for the ball. Many times tonight players were being led but just didn't look for it. The last play of the game was a sure fire TD but hit the reciever in the back and bounced into the DB's arms for the INT that sealed the game. It'll take time but it'll get there. I tip my hat to Jake Reeves for makin a HUGE catch on the final drive. Maybe that will lead to some confidence in him and they can take the next step. Off the subject, I loved the option call on 4th and 3. Nobody was expecting that one. I also liked the screen to Campbell. Get that boy in the open field and a convoy of Peterbilt's wouldn't budge him.
Les Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 The ball didn't hit anyone in the head....the receiver was supposed to run a slant route and kept running and Logan Baker picked the ball off. The ball didn't hit anyone.
