Was the '67 CCH team that lost to Earlington, the Randy Noll, etc. team??

 

Randy was a Junior and he did start. George Scholmer (big brother of Doug of Holmes fame) Joe Kriemborg, Joe Fritz, Jim Cooper, with Dale Overman (big brother of Doug of later CovCath fame) coming off the bench....While the 67 team went the farthest in the sweet sixteen, I am not sure they were the best.. The 68 team with Noll, Voskul (whose son won the NCAA Tourney at UConn) Cooper, Drodge, Vonleman, Doug Overman and Donnie Fritz were pretty strong.......as well as the 70 team with Voskul, Vonleman, Rippey, Topmiller, and Dickerson (I think). If I misspelled someone name or got the years mixed up I am sorry....It was a while ago......

The 1990 Holmes team was a great team. Absolutley loaded but the shame of it was that they came back in 91 with pretty much everyone back and didnt make it out of the region.

Dirkson? Richard Dirkson (there may be an "e" in there...) played, and I believe had an older brother. Not sure when they played though.

These CCH teams were clearly the best teams that I have seen come out of NKY. They had a 2nd team that was as good as anybody else in NKY. 10-12 deep for a number of years..

What about those NCC teams in the mids 70's with RonnyDawn, Devoto, Faust, Desmond. etc....???? Where they just a fluke to win the Region...what was it 3 yrs in a row? I was 4 yrs old at the time so sorry if I couldnt read the press clippings very well but someof you older fellas... lets get your feedback.

Richard Derkson. Had an older brother Ray who played a couple years earlier.

Jack Jennings graduated in 89. He was not part of the 90 team that lost in the finals.

The 68 team lost to Glasgow in the first round and if you believe their coach (who btw went on to coach at WKU), it was Glasgow toughest game they had to play in the entire sixteen sixteen which BTW they won that year.....

I believe it! That 68 team was awful good. So much of the Sweet 16 is the luck of the draw!

Simon Kenton has to be the choice. Every other team that has been mentioned, albeit great teams, lost their last game of the season. SK won theirs.

That doesn't necessarily mean that they were the best all-time team. It's very possible to lose this year's championship and still be better than last year's champion.

I agree with 100%. To give an example, SK had a very good team in 81, but in 1980 when they played Holmes, they got smoked by 30+.

 

SK is not the best team to ever play in NKY. As I stated in my previous post, the KY post did this same poll years ago and the fans and media voted on it, and SK was somewhere between 6-10. Holmes had the first three spots.

:thumb: Excellent teams, well coached and alot of fun to watch as I remember. Believe you can add Krebs and Wehage to the names that you mentioned. They'd make my Top 5.

In 1980 the whole SK team were juniors. Obviously they had not reached their potential. I,m sorry the only state championship EVER ! has to carry some weight. All of these other teams went home LOSERS! All the great players on the afore mentioned teams can travel out to route 17 to see the only state championship trophy. Its as close as they ever got to one.
