Good news for the rest of the class, Bowling won't beat anyone this week. Could Covington Catholic secure a top spot in the District this week? Could they take an upset? Could Highlands drop out of the Top 10 after week? How is in danger of dropping next week? Who could prove they deserve to move up? What teams could move into the Top 10 after this week?

Dixie has to be close to the top 10. If they beat Highlands this week, I'm guessing they would move in and Highlands would drop out of the top 10.

It would literally take an act of God for the Colonels to lose to Grant County.

Interesting that an undefeated team can lose spots from one week to the next.

Strength of schedule is hurting them in my opinion. South Oldham's only big wins in terms of margin of victory were against schools that have not won a game all season. Doss, which is 3-3, is likely South Oldham's best win of the season and it was only an 8 point game. Their second best win is likely a 35-14 victory over Boone County.

Whether it's right or not to look at things that way, that's another debate and I dunno which way I would lean. If the Dragons can take care of the Bullitt County teams they would likely start to impress whoever votes on these things. Either way, I wouldn't think on it too much if I were a Dragon's player, I'd just play with a chip on my shoulder and prove how good they can really be.

To add to the above, if the best wins in 5A were ranked, that Doss win by South Oldham would be #35 on the list. So South Oldham's best win of the season is the 35th best win in 5A. South Oldham's strength of schedule is 36th in 5A. Only Grant County and Atherton have a lower SOS. If you weigh that in, South Oldham might be overranked at #9.

Neither of which explains why South goes down a spot in the rankings the week after a 56-7 win. Their schedule was the same last week as it is this week.

Maybe the game will have a lightning delay and Covcath won't agree to reschedule! Grant wins 1-0. There's that chance, isn't there?

I am pretty sure South Oldham's only concern right now is the Bullitt East game on Friday. The rankings are fun to talk about but I bet the coaches and players don't pay a whole lot of attention to it. They are concerned with putting up points and stopping Perdue. And next week they will worry about Bullitt Central. They can only worry about who lines up against them on Friday night. The rest will take care of itself.

South Oldham played the same schedule last year, with roughly the same results, and then made it within 1 point of making the state Semi Finals. I don't see anything wrong with putting them anywhere in the Top 10 (2 - 10).

Not all undefeated records are made equal. In 5A, only Grant County and Atherton have played a weaker schedule than South Oldham. The win over Doss is pretty good; the win over Anderson is better in name than in reality. Wins over Boone, Oldham, North Oldham, and Nelson haven't really shown anything. On the plus side, the next four weeks will see an increase in competition - Bullitt East, Bullitt Central, North Bullitt, and Shelby County - all four of which are likely better than any previous opponent. We'll have a better understanding of South Oldham as October progresses and thus will have a better (or worse) idea of where to rank them.

Because they got jumped by a team (Owensboro) who had a much better win than they (South Oldham) have had all season

Not exactly College Level Calculus.

If you want to rank solely off win-loss record it turns into the AP Poll where you have Casey County getting a First Place vote.

By the reasoning I am seeing here, CovCath should drop in the rankings after beating Grant Co this week, as Grant will be a weak win.
