OJ Mayo to Huntington High

Featured Replies

From what I read in the Herald Leader, it doesn't sound like Patterson's mother is welcoming OJ with open arms. She says that they won't go to the same college. It doesn't sound like they are wanting the circus to be in town all basketball season.

Nothing good can ever come from a mother being quoted. Ask Harrison Beck.

Random thoughts:

1. West Virginia did not hold Billy back a year. The only place that actually moved him back a grade was North College Hill.

2. Walker would not be eligible in West Virginia any more than he would in Ohio or Kentucky.

3. I feel sure that Ashland will make every effort to keep its game with HHS. Ashland will look forward to the challenge. It will be a good learning experience. In fact, if HHS has an opening, I'm sure Rose Hill would love to fill it.

4. Mrs. Patterson realizes that Patrick will now play second fiddle at HHS. He is no longer the big draw.

5. Maybe the move enhances UK's chances with Patterson. One fact is certain, Mayo will never go to UK and, if Mrs. Patterson wants Patrick at a different school, UK would be a safe choice.

6. Patrick Patterson is a good prospect but he is no Billy Walker.

7. Mayo will earn many more assists setting up Patterson than Patterson will do in return. Mayo, contrary to the implication in Mrs. Patterson's statement, is not a selfish player.

I bet they wouldnt have to buy out the contract to play Ashland. I am sure Ashland's AD is trying to squirm out of this game as we speak, he would probably buy out that game himself right now.

Personally, I hope the game stands:D But I am sure it wont.

How well do you know Mark Swift? Would you say that you know him well enough to speak for him, or are you simply taking potshots at him, since he isn't here to defend himself? To be honest, I have no problem with you believing whatever you choose to, regarding Mark Swift. On the other hand, since you seem willing to question his ethics, you would have much more credibility if you didn't do so from a position of anonymity. If you don't want to reveal you identity on BGP, I can understand that. You obviously live in Boyd County, so it wouldn't be that hard to write a letter to the editor at the Daily Independent. Of course, then you'd have to sign your name.

I have no idea whatsoever if the game between Ashland and Huntington will stay as is, or if Huntington will try to buy out the contract (I would think that they will look at virtually every game on their current schedule, trying to find a potential buyout - or four).

If the game is played as currently scheduled, I'm sure we can count on you to be the first to post on this site, praising the team, the coach, and the AD for playing as hard as possible...

Just to be on the safe side, I'll keep an eye on the editorial page of the Daily Independent.

Frances,

I agree we can't jump to any conclusions about anyone. In defense of Redblood he may have an inside track on replacing Ashland on the schedule with his school of choice. We can't point fingers here. It is football season and basketball doesn't start officially until November. I know he is uptight about the defensive schemes of the football team and is questioning the coaching staff after two games. This could just be stress related. We should give him the benefit of the doubt either way.

Fair enough, Yak. Some fine points, regarding the stress situation.

David Thompson, here. There is a history of dodging OJ. Not a slap but it did happen.

At the risk of opening the entire can of worms again, I think we can safely say that the Rose Hill fan base and the Ashland fan base have a different view of how things played out during the two years of OJ's run in the 16th region.

No question about the fact that Ashland refused to play Rose Hill in the regular season. They still played each other four times, with both teams winning 2 games.

If Buddy Biggs has any say in the matter the game will still be played. He is not one to dodge playing anyone. At least he didn't at Pendleton Co.and I see know reason he would change now.

If the game isn't played, it will be because Huntington buys out of the contract, for a bigger payday. Then again, the game itself might be played at a venue with more seating, to increase the gate for that date.

Time will tell.

All this and the show is in a different state. I would hate to think what would have happened had he transferred to a school on this side of the line.

Man, imagine if he'd have transferred to Russell, we'd have had to rush to administer CPR to Cubster, he abhors transfers.

I am so confused, If Rickyp is batman then who is Bruce Wayne?

The situation of OJ at Rose Hill and OJ at Huntington High dont contain the same extenuating circumstances than caused Ashland to not schedule RH for one season. The situations are completely different if you ask me. It wasnt a OJ boycott is was a "we feel were unethically losing our student/athletes to this school" boycott. Agree or disagree with it, it doesnt matter to me. Im just trying to draw a distinction between the differences in the two situations. :thumb:

Glad to see OJ coming back to the area where he started out. Great player with some baggage that is going to make Huntington High the showcase of high school basketball. What a tandem he and Patterson will make.

Bruce Wayne is David Thompson!
