Covington Catholic 44 Beechwood 10

You may have a really good point there guru. Maybe Beechwood is not reporting their scores to The Enquirer.

Gotta put in the work.

I'm already on record as saying I think the Beechies wore down in the second half. But if were pointing out the miscues that resulted in CovCath scores, both Beechwood touchdown came off special team breakdowns by CovCath. Other than those two plays, the Tigers would have been shut out.

Indeed they would have.

And, for informational purposes only, both Sycamore and Oak Hills picked up GMC conference wins tonight. Each move to 2-2 on the season.

Great to see Oak Hills winning despite their losses to Elder and CCH, and Sycamore despite their losses to LaSalle and CCH.

They moved the ball up and down the field, but turnovers stymied multiple drives.

Covington Catholic only had one turnover. Beechwood stopped them on downs the other times. CCH had two drives of about 50 yards that got stopped on downs. I looked at the game summary again. When I add those two drives and the 65 yard TD drive at the end of the half, I could see that they did have more first half yardage than it felt like.

A turnover on downs is still a turnover? That's the way I've always understood it.

I don't think that counts as a turnover in the game stats. Only lost fumbles and interceptions count as turnovers.

Agreed. But either way, CovCath moved the ball up and down the field in the 1st half. I wasn't comfortable with a 7 point lead at half after the Colonels seemingly dominated 1st half play.

Probably true. From the perspective of someone writing up weekly power rankings for NKY teams, Beechwood and Lloyd are both consistently 4+ days behind in getting stats to the KHSAA, whereas the KHSAA has stats from the likes of Simon Kenton and Cov Cath posted within 16 hours of the game being played. I'm assuming Beechwood isn't reporting their stats to the Enquirer any sooner than they're getting them in to the KHSAA.

Samcro, rest up.

I asked this in the update thread, just curious, does Beechwood really only have 38 kids dressing? Seems unusually low for Beechwood standards. Sideline just looked empty. Maybe I'm wrong and that's where they've always been but, I thought only half the team came out of the locker room to start the game.

Also, VERY classy move by CovCath to say a prayer for Mr. Dawn of NewCath before the game!!

Ronnie Dawn is among the best folks around when it comes to people involved in Northern Kentucky sports. Here's to a quick and full recovery for him!

Beechwood has a total of 41 players on their roster. Now I can't tell you how many were hurt and or didn't play but their rosters show 41 player

Correct you are sir!

Hate to say it, but bailed and went to Ryle/Campbell Co. game. Knew there was just no way the BW munchkins could hang with the BIGGER Colonels. The small line will be the story all year and might even be challenged next week against HC. Having heard no mention of injury, am I accurate to conclude the Tigers came home pretty much sound? Maybe injured psyche, but Coach Rash will heal those pretty quickly.
