Too many High Schools in each County

Lack of State Championships or playoff runs

JUCO type facilities

Staff longevity

 

Not sure, but I know the schools I mentioned, especially one, has a reputation across the states, not just Ky.

 

So I look at Male. They are slightly larger than SK and slightly smaller than Ryle. Louisville has a lot of schools as well. And a lot of very competing choices for the best players.

 

All the others things you mentioned are controlled by the program. Level of developed talent, support, lack of playoff runs, staff longevity is all controlled by the program. Male earned the respect of people to have kids sent there. They just didn't wake up and said they wanted to be good in football. Same with Scott County. They both made a commitment to being good in football. You develop talent which develops success and success can bring more success.

 

I just don't get why all NKY big schools just play for second every year. They are big enough and should have enough kids to be competitive. If other public schools can do it (male, manual, SC), then so can SK. I would give the Boone co schools a slighter chance because their district handicaps them with not having open enrollment. But SK should be able to compete. There staff has been there a long time! So you could take that off the table for them.

 

My point is what one of the others was trying to make. If you keep saying you can't, you never will. Find a way! I have never in my life felt like I was playing any season for second place. And if someone told me we could never beat someone else, I made it my mission to prove them wrong!

Nice long post. Good keyword is "Program", with player and community support, not just a local football team. I never said can't, and I would never tell my team they can't, but I would be realistic and make sure they know what it takes to beat a team like T. I think if you ask any coach up here, they will admit it has a lot to do with football talent depth, not overall school size. It's nothing new to actually see that it is hard for any NKY team to win 6A state and accepting that is not crushing a dream. Often times for the NKY teams that dream ends a few weeks before the State final. I would love just as much as anyone to see one of our local NKY teams achieve that 6A title goal.

Why would we imagine that. A school that size is unheard of in KY. And you think that all the good players would just go to one school? Just imagine a team that combined all the Male and Manual best players? Just imagine a team that took HHS, NCC and Newport best players. That would only make them about as big as Ryle. I'm being silly. But my point is, just cause you have open enrollment doesn't mean that all of a sudden kids flock to your school or can work it out to attend. And Male does it in the same city with T, X, Manual, Desales, central, loiusville HC, Christian Academy and many others and still finds a way to compete. It can be done.

 

But I do agree that Boone co schools handicap themselves with the own enrollment rules.

Seems to sum up 6A football in NKY every year.

 

Why limit it to NKY. With the exception of 1 year or 2 here and there that's the state of KY outside of Louisville forever.

The closed enrollment never seemed to impact Coach Fookes and the Boone County girls basketball program. :banana:

Can someone shed any light on why Ryle only beat Henry Clay by a TD?

 

I want to bestow upon them contender status, at least in their Semi-State, but that game is sticking out like a sore thumb after seeing Tates Creek put a 44-0 beating on Henry Clay.

 

Long story short, Ryle pooped the bed in the 2nd Half. After holding a sizable lead, they forced HC to punt the ball inside their own 20 with less than 4 minutes to play to win the game. Ryle gave up too many big returns on special teams and let HC back into the game.

Ya know, after I thought about this too. Isn't this area (Ryle and Cooper district) one of the fastest growing areas around? And aren't we hearing theres another boom of houses coming? So aren't they getting new kids just about every year? So they may not be getting open enrollment kids, but I bet they are getting more kids per year than several open enrollment schools that are actually land locked...like perhaps Male.

I know Cooper has plenty of kids that could help the football program now, but they choose not to play, same at Ryle and Conner. I would agree, but couldn't that apply to just about any school? Even open enrollment schools. Most open enrollment schools have a limit of what they can accept as well. And they don't qualify who gets in based on football talent. There are way more out of district kids at HHS that don't play football than do. And there are more out of district kids that may not even play any sport. And HHS is full each year. They only have enough spots for a few out of district kids in each class. And I can assure you that Football skills/talent is not on the top of the criteria list. In fact, it's not on there at all. Whether you get in or not has just about everything to do with academic patterns and behavior. So a football kid that wants to come there is competing against the brainiac, the band guy, the art student, the drama student, and all the other sports kids.

 

Open Enrollment may have some advantages over the Boone Co schools, but not really as much as everyone wants to lead on to. It may mean a couple players a year. Do you think those couple players would be the difference in the gap between Boone Co schools and the Louisville schools.

 

Growth brings opportunity and that Union district and the Independence district is full of opportunity!
