Elder (OH) 13 Covington Catholic 3

I was on the opposite side of the stadium and thought that he had fumbled, but after he had crossed the goal line? Did the Elder player never have possession of the ball?

I was in that endzone and from what I could tell was he caught it, fumbled it and then recovered it in the endzone.

Not to defend Elder, but I'm sure it wasn't all Elder. Like Covcath fans have never been obnoxious? It's like the pot calling the kettle black. Why is it okay if CovCath fans are getting out of hand but now it's "those Elder people are some of the worst fans." ? Sounds like CovCath played a decent game, lost the game, and received some of the same treatment that they give to other teams and the CovCath faithful don't like it one bit. Learn from it, and don't act like that if your team ever starts winning big games again.

First free thinker were you at the game today? If not, please don't post what you know nothing about. If you were there fine, tell us what you saw! The CovCath kids were as far removed from the Elder fans as could be possible at Nippert today. From what I saw from my seat was the Elder kids coming to the CovCath side of the field....and not the other way around.... and please pray tell, since I have never read anything but kind words about the CovCath cheering section on BGP's what are you talking about??? KAPAS, and the KHSAA both singled out the CovCath student body as an example of how kids should cheer at games and have fun doing it at the last Sweet Sixteen and I am sure if you looked you could find hundreds maybe thousands of post from posters who have enjoyed watching the CovCath kids do their thing. Finally the Ohio Referees didn't have to warn the CovCath side of the field to behave at all, just the Elder side.

I just want to say that I saw a great game today. Both teams played hard.

I was sitting in the endzone close to the Elder cheering section and I must admit that the Cov. Cath student section on the opposite end of the field from where I was , was still the more dominate force, until, the series close to the Elder cheering section when the refs warned the Elder band to stop playing,:creepy: , WOW, that was all the Elder kids needed. I think they call it the 12th man. Cov. Cath. just lost focus and, well the rest is history.

As much as I really don't want to give the Cov. Cath. student section credit, from where I was sitting they were definately stronger that the Elder group, until that call.:madman:

Great effort by the Colonels.

The game was probably closer than many on the Ohio side thought it would be.

I agre free t. Just kids having fun. If a few trumpets and clarinets give you a couple false starts I think it's lack of concentration and not crowd noise. Or did they play at the Superdome??

No bulldogtech, it is against the rules!!!!

Note: I got this from a Elder fan who said that the Elder Coach was upset by the band playing also.

Here's the rule:

Bands shall not play music at football games while ball is in play, or while signals are being call by quarterback. This means that it is not permissible to use either:

1. Drum roll or beat

2. Cymbal clashing

3. Horn sounds, or

4. Any other kind of musical instrument while the play is underway in football.

BTW one warning was given, then a second, when the Referee had to do it a third time, a penalty should have been given.....

Why the rule isn't enforced, I have no idea, but I believe most bands will stop playing or at least tone it down a bit when the visiting team gets near them. As I posted earlier, I have no problem at all with the students getting loud by screaming, chanting, or such, but when you have to get your band to just make noise with their instruments then that is stepping over the line of good sportmenship......

Was also in the close to the cheering section

there where 2 altercations

The first one involved 4 Elder students coming into the Cov Cath cheering section...they went into the middle. The freshman warned the seniors about them and Cov Cath started cheering NO GIRLS ALLOWED!! After they still refused to leave... the Cov Cath students started throwing stuff at them... then one of the teachers from Cov Cath came up and escorted them out...

The Second altercation was when I cov cath kid was wrapped in rope and had the flag on his bad... An elder kid(about 12 years old) came up and started pulling the flag trying to pull him down... A junior came to his aid and confronted the kid at elder who repeatedly tried to hit him with a blow up clapping contraption. Then the CCH student got right in his face and told him to get out of here before everyone else comes over here.... after the CCH student walked away.. the kid walked near the Cov Cath cheering section and a freshman(not to be named) took the kids hat and ripped it in half. The police then threw out the President of Student Council at Cov Cath

THat is how they both went...

CovCath should have crossed the Ohio River today with a win! They gave up two turnovers. One on Elder's 3 yard line and the other on Elder's 18 (after driving to their 8 but two false starts moves them back). I really thought that CovCath was the better team on the field, it just that mistakes made CovCath pay. Take nothing away from Elder they played hard, limited their mistakes and took advantage of CovCath when they made their mistakes.

It was a good game. I too think CC could have won the game with a few breaks and better ball control. Fumbles hurt CC, but don't forget CC's only score was set up by an E fumble deep in CC territory. So it cuts both ways I guess. Both teams impressed me a lot. Clearly CC has not dropped down at all from last year and may, as others have suggested, be a better more balanced team than last year. I'm sure the Birds are looking forward to the challenge against E. this week and CC in about 7.

Story from the Enquirer:

12th man plum perfect

Elder football fans' loyalty has been tested in the past year. The normally imposingly raucous Purple Nation was neither imposing nor raucous last season, as the Panthers, two years removed from back-to-back Division I state titles, struggled through a 4-6 season.

But both the team and the fans made amends Saturday at Nippert Stadium in the finale of the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown. The Panthers did their part with a 13-3 victory over Covington Catholic. The fans chipped in by disrupting the Colonels in a pair of late red zone opportunities.

Let the band's play. Ridiculous rule. It's part of the atmosphere. As a player you learn to tune it out. You have to listen in the huddle and concentrate at the line. Watch the ball. Move as soon as the ball moves. The rules are made a lot of times by people who never played a down in their entire life.

You have to listen in the huddle .

I don't CCH was huddling.

Let me ask you this then, what if all of the Cov Cath students had Air Horns... and everytime elder had the ball they would all blow the air horns at the same time so it would be destracting... do u think that is fair

Free thinker has obviously never played football.

As a player you do have to learn to tune things out, but there's a certain point where the noise is so loud that you can't hear the calls over the noise. It's not a lack of concentration or focus, but a difference in decible (sp?) levels between the voice of a quarterback who is standing behind you (in the case of a no-huddle offense) and 30+ musical instruments being blown as loud as they can. Knowing the snap count is one of the advantages of an offense, they shouldn't be forced to watch the ball like the opposing defense has to. Maybe some rules are made by people who have never played, but I would bet that this isn't one of them and that none of the rules are made without careful consideration.
