Good game for CovCath to build on.

Turnovers hurt, some untimely penalties (the holding in the 2nd quarter when we had a long completion on third down for a first down) hurt, and a miscue in the backfield also hurt.

Still CovCath went toe to toe with a top 10 Ohio D1 team. Even ran at them somewhat effectively. CovCath got a lot more out of this game then the Boone game. I like the effort from the Colonels.

I'm not so sure Elder ends up a top 10 D1 team this year. In fact, I think they lose 3 GCL games and struggle to have a winning record.

Although I thought CovCath played their guts out and could have won this game if it werent for turnovers, I think they better learn how to hold onto the football. Teams are going to stick you so you better be ready. Most DB's and LB's are taught now to strip the ball when tackling so that is also something the Colonels need to expect when playing good teams.

I liked the defensive effort in the 1st half though..they seemed to get good penetration and had a lot of aggressiveness.

Cov Cath's best strengths IMO are the special teams. The kicker is the best up here and the punter may be as well. This will come in handy during playoff games. Good luck Colonels. Take it easy on Dixie next week.

I was referencing the yappi preseason poll. Who knows where Elder finishes. They've got a good team and a game under their belt.

Either way, there only a handful of Ky teams that could play Elder to a 10 point game this year.

I'm sure the coaches will be addressing the need to hold onto the football this week in practice.

Ok, got it. I agree... cov Cath and Highlands are probably the only 2 teams over here that can compete with the GCL...atleast at this point.

BTW- it was somewhat refreshing to listen to the Cov Cath radio guys yesterday .....they weren't as bad at the homering....the guy doing color though needs to speak up a little and act a little bit more enthused. He made some nice comments and caught some things the play by play guy missed but I kept picturing him looking like my old professor in college. overall a nice broadcast.

Sounds like the Colonels need to hold on to the ball. For what it's worth about the band/cheering section thing... I will say that from my experiences Elder's band is always playing while the game is going on. If it's a rule, it needs to be inforced.

I will pass the information on to Mark and the J-man. Jason, who is very, very young at least to me, will get a kick out of being thought of as a old college professor. I think, it must of had to do with he mike not working well. Jason is usually more laid back than Mark, but not as soft spoken as what I heard listening to the archive of the game late last night.....

The Enquirer seemed to suggest that the cheering of the crowd caused false starts both times the Colonels were in the red zone. Sounds like this was the purpose of the yelling. Is this a supportive crowd or poor sportsmanship? What can be done to prevent such things in the future?

Personally, I think it is very poor sportsmanship.

A hold? No. A flat-out mugging, yes. :D

Didn't make a difference, you're right. CovCath had a zillion chances to win that game and have only themselves to blame for not getting it done. Hopefully they rebound and take care of business this week. The frustrating thing for me is, they had a chance to steal one yesterday, and now, have really very little chance at ending the year any better than 6-4. I'm all for a "good" schedule, but jeesh.

Looks like #30 lays out the fullback....nice blowup hit.

No doubt -- terrible sportsmanship! :irked:

The CCH fan who ripped up the hat was escorted out of the stadium, deservedly so. While it was a dumb move, it was better than going over and hitting the kid in the face like the young Elder fan had done to the CCH kids. Both were in the wrong, and both got what they deserved- the boot.

Whoever said that you need to play for 4 quarters with the GCL was dead on, CCH turned in an excellent first half. Hats off to the Elder boys for their recovery in the 2nd half. It was a fun game. CCH needs to convert in the red zone on offense.

Congratulations to CCH linebacker Will Geisen, who got his first interception of his career with a cast on his right arm. :dancingpa And he deserved it, after batting down probably the easiest interception that I have seen last year vs. Beechwood, and getting a lot of jokes about it over the past 8 months :jump: :jump: Congrats Will.

Also Sam Flynn forced (or recovered, I dont't remember) a fumble on the first possesion, the kid is a turnover machine. That's 3 or 4 turnovers he has been a part of in two games, what a player.

Sam Flynn was the one to recover the fumble.
