I heard that Flynn had 24 tackles.

Thats correct, pretty amazing.

From what i saw Flynn is the real deal probably the best Linebacker in NKY and top 5 in the state

It's a shame he's not 6-3 because with his tenacity(nice word for a little crazy) , football sense, and atheletic ability we'd see him playing at Ohio State or Notre Dame next year. Unfortunately big schools don't want 5-11, 190 lb kids

I was just wondering what the refs were thinking when they called an offsides and a false start at the same time. can someone explain the real interpretation of the rule?

No bulldogtech, it is against the rules!!!!

Note: I got this from a Elder fan who said that the Elder Coach was upset by the band playing also.

Here's the rule:

Bands shall not play music at football games while ball is in play, or while signals are being call by quarterback. This means that it is not permissible to use either:

1. Drum roll or beat

2. Cymbal clashing

3. Horn sounds, or

4. Any other kind of musical instrument while the play is underway in football.

BTW one warning was given, then a second, when the Referee had to do it a third time, a penalty should have been given.....

Why the rule isn't enforced, I have no idea, but I believe most bands will stop playing or at least tone it down a bit when the visiting team gets near them. As I posted earlier, I have no problem at all with the students getting loud by screaming, chanting, or such, but when you have to get your band to just make noise with their instruments then that is stepping over the line of good sportmenship......

Hey Old Guy, I can tell you that rule does not appear in the rule books of high school football anywhere. Where do you find such a rule that applies to the band?

I can tell you there is a rule 9-9-1 which states "A player, nonplayer or person not subject to the rules shall not hinder play by an unfair act which has no specific rule coverage". This rule could be applied to the band in such a situation. Under this rule the referee may enforce any penalty he considers equitable, inlcuding the awarding of a score. However, as an official I have personally heard many bands in KY play during the plays, especially while the opponent is on offense. While this is generally considered in poor taste, it is generally not considered a foul, and is rarely if ever penalized.

Joe, not having seen the play I cannot tell you why the officials called offsides (encroachment is the proper word to use here) and false start. There was probably movement on both sides of the ball, the officials needed to settle which one to penalize. Did the defender's movement cause the offense to false start? If so, then the penalty is against the defense. If not, the it on the offense. It may actually be that both penalties were correct and the double fouls offset. This is rare, but sometimes the officials cannot distinguish which foul occurred first, and both players are at fault.

The neutral zone if the length of the football at rest prior to the snap. No player from either team is allowed in the NZ except the snapper who must have his hands on the ball to snap. If a player steps into the NZ, leans into or across the NZ then this is encroachment. If an A player's action simulates action at the snap prior to the snap, then this is a flase start.

No doubt -- terrible sportsmanship! :irked:

Am I understanding you correctly??

You think it is poor sportsmanship for the crowd to get as loud as possible during the game when the opponent is getting close to scoring???

I wanted CCH to win as much as the next NKY fan, but isn't that part of the game?

Game Stats:

CovCath outgained by Elder 292 - 214.

CovCath had 4 turnovers, Elder 2.

CovCath/Elder Stats

The post had the final total yardage as 286-271 Elder-almost a draw.

Scroll up and read post #8, 10, 11, 13, 16, 19, 32, 36, and 37.

I'll give you a quick summary: They all pertain to poor sportsmanship and poor behavior by Elder fans.
