Who do you want as Kentucky's next coach?

Featured Replies

I would welcome Brohm with open arms but would quietly wonder why didn't he wait for a better offer than UK?

Very true. Another great season by WKU and he'll be wanted by more tradition rich programs than UK.

Houstons coach.

You mean the guy who will take over at FSU or LSU depending on how the Les Miles is out Jimbo Fisher to LSU scenario plays out? Herman is way too good to come to UK from Houston. Come on now.

At least we've heard of Les Miles. We need a big name college football coach at UK. Plus I like the idea of the mad hatter running wild in Commonwealth Stadium.

We don't need a big name coach at UK. We need a coach who can win. Plus no big name coach worth his salt would even entertain coming to UK. Get Jeff Brohm, let the team and program ascend for a few years and then watch Brohm end up at Florida or Georgia next.

For the Brohm camp...

Details and conditions of Brohm's contract | Sports | wkuherald.com

Brohm's contract buyout will start at a larger figure than that of former coach Bobby Petrino (who owed WKU $1.2 million when he left for Louisville), but it decreases in cost every year. If the contract is terminated before March 1, 2015, WKU is owed $1.5 million. If it is terminated before Feb. 28, 2016, WKU is owed $1.2 million. If the contract is broken before Febr. 28, 2017, WKU will be paid $900,000, and if it's terminated on or after March 1, 2017, WKU is owed $600,000.

This is an interesting but very unlikely candidate. Brohm next job is probably already pre-determined.

Houstons Coach Tom Herman

Dukes Coach David Cutcliffe

Paul Johnson Georgia Tech get some triple option going.

Why would anyone who is already a successful head coach in one of the Power 5 conferences even consider Kentucky?

Why do those numbers make you think that? I think Stoops' 12 million dollar buyout is more troublesome than these numbers. UK could pay those numbers right there with ease.

Exactly.

Brohm would be good but I'd rather have Leach. I know he lost this weekend but he's winning in the PAC-12 with WSU and won in the Big 12 with Tech.

UK needs someone like that IMO. Leach wouldn't be intimidated of the big dogs.

Truth be told if UK wants a winner bad enough they'll hire Art Briles. That's guaranteed success but at the cost of everyone knowing you're all about winning. Morally bankrupt move perhaps but he'd instantly change UK football. For UK to get a truly elite coach, this is their only shot. Not saying I'm completely for this, but I'd at least get as much info as I could about the Baylor stuff.

Unless UK throws a absurd money number out there we will not see a big name coach come in, as the job has been proven toxic. They need a coach that can come in and attract a QUALITY staff as well, because a head coach is only as good as his supporting cast. This in turn will cost UK money as well.

Brohm could be an interesting option, but who could he bring along with him? How can he recruit? And what will the next coach use to "sell" a new UK?

Whoever takes it will have a mountain to climb-

Ouch. I had not looked up Stoops's buyout.

But what can Mitch really afford? Joker got paid out, there is the stadium upgrades and then to finance the incoming coach buyout. I know its big time football and the saying of a 'a million here and million there and soon your talking real money' applies. But UK football has racked-up some big bills in the face of poor ticket sales.

I think he has proven he can recruit and coach as I think most will agree that WKU is the second best team in the state right now. I also think he and Lamar Thomas have a connection so there is a possible holdover for his staff already. He can bring Brian with him as a cheap but capable assistant. QB coach at the least.

I like trying to build this dream with Brohm as the head coach of UK. :lol2:

Maybe I am naive but I can't help but feel like UK can have deep pockets when they want to.

Call Rich Brooks up and let him be heavily involved in the coaching search/ interview process. UK needs a coach who knows how to develop football players, something I haven't seen with Stoops.

Brooks did a great job at UK taking 2 and 3 star kids and turning them into NFL players.
