Last year Male dominates 1st game (playing 20+ seniors) against Rocks young team to win by 4TDs. After a season of maturing, eventual State Champions and top 10 nationally ranked Bulldogs are seriously challenged in playoffs to win rematch meeting 21-19. Now the team experience profiles and national rankings have flipped. Think Coach Wolfe will be very pleased if the Dogs are competitive and can keep it close. Suspect he will not show his whole recipe in this game he's got to beating the Rocks. He'll hold back all the herbs and spices until the rematch. Might not even be enough then!

It's a new year & this year I just think the Rocks have too much for the Bulldogs. Male does do a great job spreading you out and getting the ball to their playmakers in open space so I do think they'll put a few scores up.

Spearheaded by some former Trinity players and in conjunction with the school there will be a reception before the game for former head coach Jim Kennedy who is turning 90 this year. Coach Kennedy was head coach from the '66 season through about the '73-'74 season. In his third season he led Trinity to its first state championship. Over 100 players have RSVP'd. Also attending will be former assistant coaches who coached with him, along with some of his players while he was at Flaget High. He will also be honored at halftime.

Maybe Chris Wolfe is the greatest coach since Lombardi but I would argue that with the class that he graduated last year he should be celebrating a three-peat. He had the best pure athletes in the state for 3 years. How come he was only able to get 1 championship out of all that talent? Keeping players motivated and playing at a high level is also part of coaching.

Nothing but truth in your post. Only 1 state championship with all that talent the past 4 years. Most of the guys that graduated from T last year also got a ring Freshman year and played in majority of the playoff games including the state championship (limited reps during blow out wins with the exception of Scott Co win). So...I like to say the 2016 graduates received 2 rings - also a true statement.

 

We're back to 'right now' and I really enjoy this version of the Shamrocks. Can't wait to watch this game tonight. I hope Coach Wolfe is holding back his herbs and spices. I'm willing to bet Coach Beatty isn't holding back anything. Or, I certainly hope he isn't holding back!! I have to get this missed extra point taste out of my mouth from last year...still makes me sick.

Bottom line it ain't that easy to win them all or even the big one. Male has had a lot of talent the past few years and they still do just inexperienced. I think more T fans or just non-Male fans are more disappointed in the fact that Male only has one ring in the past few years. The Male faithful are happy with Coach Wolfe but by no means are we screaming Lombardi. You'll be hard-pressed to find a more prepared coach, talent or no talent than Chris Wolfe.

 

To the other point, both teams acknowledged this is a regular season game. I don't think it was Wolfe who said, "It's not the Super Bowl." I don't expect either team to show too much. These teams know each other very well. It's an early season non district game. It be much different if we're still in the super days but those are long gone, Trinity already received their district champ trophy in the mail.

 

Now, for the purposes of keeping conversation lively... What will be the narrative if T loses tonight? The rain? The refs? Lol
