JV Player Even when ashland had there so-called best team in the last decade last season, they still didnt have enough for the devils

 

Ok, Ashland didn't have enough to pull ot the win last year. But IMO as bad as Ashland played last year Russell won by only 8 points and Ashland with the last posession inside the 5? Not a very convincing win by the eventual State champs??:sssh:

It has been...That's why the loss last year was such a big wake up call...I personally don't agree with Jeepman, but I do see his point...

 

As long as we continue to play in the Kiwanis Bowl & our varsity games stay so competitive, Ashland will be Russell's biggest non-district game...Of course, that could all change starting next year...:sssh:

It will be if Ashland cannot prevail against Raceland next year. The community loves these rivalry games just like the players do. It's fun to play against kids you know by first name. The Russell Ashland game is huge for both teams but will hurt Ashland more than Russell. Look back at my posts. I believe that a loss during the regular season in a game that has no impact on the play offs can make a team better. It tells the players that they must be ready for every game. I think the Boyd County loss last year made Russell a better team. My opinion.

I agree with you Jeepster, the BC game probably means more this year to some of the players than it might normally but the Ashland game means more to the team and coaches year in and year out than either Boyd or Greenup...Heck, it's the only game of the 3 that's always competitive...It's not a shock or possibly embarrassing if we lose to Ashland but it is if we lose to Boyd or Greenup...Please don't bombard me Boyd and Greenup fans...I'm only stating the obvious based on our head to head records over the past 20-30 years...For whatever reasons, Russell has enjoyed sustained success against those 2 programs while maintaining an interesting and healthy rivaly with Ashland...We expect to win when we play Boyd & Greenup...We expect a real dogfight (catfight) when we play Ashland...

This game will be close , someone said it will come down to opportunites and what each side does with them. I couldn't agree more ...

 

For Ashland , as a team they have faced adversity and bounced back .. very important in team building. Hopefully the win over Red Army is a turning point for Ashland's entire program for years to come.

 

For the Devils , as a program they have achieved and seem positioned to stay on top ... This game is likely the only measuring stick the Devils will have until the playoffs and the kids know it ... This worries me to death about the Devils season ... Can only get fat eating cupcakes ...

 

Although to early to predict ...

Skill players ... even ... these kids all know each other ... no surprises..

Proven scheme - Russell .. much more hard nosed and steady

Momentum - Ashland .. has teamed against adversity

Lines - Russell on paper and limited action so far ...

Greatness for Ashland Seniors would be - immediate - shutting Russell up - priceless - Boyd did it last year. When you talk to anyone from Boyd on the street that's the first thing that comes up about last year and they earned it ...

Amen to that. I had a gentleman stop me in the locker room at the YMCA while I was changing clothes. I was putting on my old Russell shirt that I wore to the weight room and he started on me. I never really figured out where he was from, I can only assume Boyd Co. Because the whole time I was getting ready he stood there and went on and on about Russell losing to Boyd Co. I told him "I'll take that loss in trade for the ring" That's all he said from then on every time I saw him. He would walk past me, shake his head and say "But you lost to Boyd Co"
