Against John Hardin, they couldn't sustain long drives, as Jamale Carothers scored from 71 yards out. Deangelo Wilson then scored from 40 yards out and Luke Brown scored from 30 yards out and had a running clock by halftime and they didn't play the rest of the game.

 

Against Christian County, they still couldn't sustain long drives, as Jamale Carothers took the opening toss sweep of the game for 52 yards; and later for a 22 yard shovel pass; and later a 62 yard catch and run. Deangelo Wilson added a 24 yard reverse for a TD and the running clock didn't start until the 3rd Quarter.

Bart Bruner the X defensive coach doesn't allow people to line up incorrectly or unsound. They will start 11 seniors and play very hard.

 

I would agree with you, but after watching their game against LC and see how they lined up against two wide to each side left me sratching my head. He is dead set on having 2 high safeties, and at times had 3 over top 2 offensive players on both sides. If he gets his defense that spread out this week BG will not miss their opportunities like LC did in the second half.

 

I have been a fan of Coach Bruner, but something didn't make sense last week.

Almost hate that I will be camping with no signal this weekend, will have to catch up on Monday.

It's a lot easier said than done just because of the athleticism in their skill guys. If any team can take that away from BG, it'd be a tough game. It is something I think X does well. But D. Wilson is one of the best athletes after the catch I've ever seen in high school football. If X controls Wilson and puts the game on the shoulders of Kenner and Carrothers, it will be a shootout like it was a couple years ago.

 

I wouldn't be surprised to see this game go to OT but I'm just looking forward to another awesome game. Not giving a final or who I think will win. Too close to call!

Tigers DB's range from 5'8 - 6'2 roughly 160 pounds on average. I have not seen many defensive alignments where the corners are playing press coverage. What I have seen a lot of is a 3 to 4 yard cushion and then swarming to the ball. From what I read, it seems like X MUST fly to the ball and wrap up before the BG WR's get into open space. Thoughts?

After watching the Lex Cath v St X game, I came away with the following observations:

 

1. St X has 2 separate offensive lines (1 with a bunch of 60#s and the other a bunch of 70#s). They alternate series throughout the game and they are relatively fresh at the end of the game.

2. The St X Defensive Line rolls a bunch of guys in and out of there as well. So they try to stay fresh as well.

3. The St X D always has 2 safety's deep. BG hasn't thrown deep a ton (hasn't had to); will be interesting to see what adjustments are made during this game if the BG shorter passing game is effective.

4. Did not see Blake Roshkowski. Is he hurt? Will he play Friday?

5. X QB is a tough kid and plays hard. However, I feel BG will attempt to stop/slow down the middle X rush game, which is their bread and butter.

6. X is well coached. Didn't see a ton of motion/delay of game/unsportsmanlike penalities that you might during the first game of the season.

7. X kicker looked really good and put it in the endzone every time I saw him kick. That is a big deal against BG.

EKK, I think you go with that type coverage. It worked last year.

I wouldn't play press coverage on BG unless you are used to it. They are too quick and that will allow them to get by you too easily. The X safeties are big in this game. They have to tackle well to prevent long TD plays. If they don't it will be tough for X to keep up offensively.

Lex Cath scored last at about the 10 minute mark of the 2nd Quarter and never scored again. I don't think the X D gets enough credit for that.

Good stuff @Purple88! I agree 100% the D stepped up HUGE. I rewatched the game yesterday and as I thought, Lex Cath did not cross the 50 at all the second half! I don't care who you are playing, that is impressive to keep a team on their side of the field. The other "group" that does not give enough credit for Friday are the Taylor parents! Sam and Jake Taylor both had OUTSTANDING games. Take those 2 out of the game and St. X gets beats with a running clock.

I hope I'm wrong, but as I think more and more about it I see this game being similar to the 2013 game. The score might be "close", but it may not be as close as the score indicates. BG is just on a different level of X this year, especially without the dynamic play for the X QB who will not be playing.

Yes they run a lot of screens middle, bubble and outside in. They do a good job of taking slot and splitting TE outside to block. Dbs will have to be very physical and outside backers fast.

If X can sustain drives they give themselves a shot. But if they multiple 3 and outs and give BG a short field to work with....it could get ugly.

I'm not a BG guy. That being said their Defense is just as strong as their Offense. Their special teams could beat a lot of Kentucky teams. I'm not being sarcastic here, these guys are GOOD!
