Cooper struggled against CCH in 7 on 7's. I think this game goes to the Birds by 10 or less.

 

Although I typically don't put much into 7 on 7's, that one was a demolition by CCH...something like 8-0. I see Highlands getting their revenge from last year.

I don't have a clue what to expect as it sounds like both teams have a ton of new starters.

Bingo- touting a wide receiver as one of the key reasons you will win while at the same time getting demolished in a 7v7 (where all you do is pass obviously) against a team that is still TBD doesn't add up for Cooper. Who is going to throw it to this kid?

I say Highlands by two touchdowns.

That is what worries me also...the 7 on 7 vs CCH. With that said I don't put a whole lot of stock in 7 on 7's because there is no line play etc.

 

I don't think it will be a 2 TD or more loss though if HHS does win. If Cooper wins and you are putting a lot of weight on the 7 on 7, then I guess that doesn't bode well for CCH vs HHS this year.

Don't take anything away from the 7 on 7 against Cov Cath. It was not a good day for Cooper by any means, but that also has to do with them not playing Hendrix after about 2 series, Schlarman having a broken thumb and not playing much offensively, and a few kids out of position. Was it the showing Cooper had hoped for? No. But was it more of a day to see if kids that had been moved to different spots would be able to play those positions? Yes.

 

Every team has one of those days where they just forget about what happened. Some have them at practice, unfortunately Cooper's came on a 7 on 7 day. They will be just fine. They fly around defensively, Jackson and Schlarman will run the crap out of the ball, and no one on the field can cover Dante Hendrix.

 

Does that mean a Cooper win? Who knows. Maybe or maybe not. But I can tell you that basing this game off of a 7 on 7 is not a very wise decision.

Borchers has QBs in each grade working through the system and runs with the senior once they reach this point. It doesn't appear to be any different than Highlands who is also starting an new QB starter who is a senior (5 year in a row with that per the article).

 

Cooper will be fine at QB and may surprise a lot of people.

This game depends on Cooper qb play. Not trying to put down the Jags qb but he has struggled with int's since his Freshman year.

Pretty obvious from the article that Shoemaker has no clue what he is talking about. The picture of number 5 is not Brady Gosney. "Swiss Cheese" defense last year, please, this game was 23-13 before Highlands got desperate and turned the ball over in one way shape or form. Cooper wanted the HHS offense on the field last year early on as it was pretty obvious to everyone in attendance that the unit as a whole was struggling mightily to get anything going especially in the first half and defense was going to be a strong point for Cooper early on because they had so much returning on that side of the ball.

While I understand what you are saying and can agree to a point, I think this game is won or loss in the trenches. Whichever line controls the point of attack wins this game. I think Cooper's line has been underrated over the past years,, they are usually undersized but athletic and they flat out get the job done. Keeping with methodology as well as a normally stingy defense, is why I give Cooper the edge in the game.

I may be mistaken but I believe HHS "DI" QB was also coming out as a first time full starter for varsity.

I'm looking forward to watching Cooper's QB grow this year.

I watched him in the scrimmage last week and he has great downfield accuracy. The only thing I've seen in the past with him that he needed to work on and hopefully he has is getting the b all out a bit quicker. Sometimes it seems he tries to be too perfect and that makes him hesitate. Hopefully he learned and worked on that this offseason and he must realize all QB's will make mistakes, just don't let it get to him mentally if and when he makes a mistake.

 

The best QB's always seem to know how to leave mistakes behind them. I really like what I think Lonaker can become under Borcher's tutoring on the position.

 

I am a bit dissapointed in the poll results so far. This time last year it was around 75 for Highlands and about 15 for Cooper. Come on you BlueBird fans, you're slacking this year!

Also, is the Schlarman who plays RB for Cooper any relation to Jacob Schlarman that played LB at Boone a couple of years ago? The Cooper RB is a good athlete as was the Boone LB.

Jackson did not play in the scrimmage but I would assume he will be playing in the game Friday. Have not heard otherwise and I do believe that they are related. Justin Schlarman is a beast for Cooper. He is only the second freshman to over start a varsity game at Cooper. So this is his third year as a varsity starter and he is a junior! I expect a break out year for him
