It pains me to say I agree with Hellbird.

 

Also, found the article spot on with regards to the defense and the pic. Pic did not have a caption, just so happened to mention Brady next to it in that paragraph.

I'm looking forward to watching Cooper's QB grow this year.

I watched him in the scrimmage last week and he has great downfield accuracy. The only thing I've seen in the past with him that he needed to work on and hopefully he has is getting the b all out a bit quicker. Sometimes it seems he tries to be too perfect and that makes him hesitate. Hopefully he learned and worked on that this offseason and he must realize all QB's will make mistakes, just don't let it get to him mentally if and when he makes a mistake.

 

The best QB's always seem to know how to leave mistakes behind them. I really like what I think Lonaker can become under Borcher's tutoring on the position.

 

I am a bit dissapointed in the poll results so far. This time last year it was around 75 for Highlands and about 15 for Cooper. Come on you BlueBird fans, you're slacking this year!

 

Cooper dominated the game in my opinion. However, I do think HHS was driving with like 4 min left in the game to get within 3...then the two turnovers for TD's happened. HHS played horrific in that game and Cooper was the better team, but HHS still almost snuck up on them at the end and the momentum was starting to change a little as Cooper wore down. Birds just couldn't keep is close enough early to make the run and had to go into desperation mode.

 

Should be a good game this week. I have not idea what to expect out of this new group of Birds, other than I know they'll play their tails off and get better as the season moves forward. I really like playing the local teams again and I think the kids do as well.

Looking like we might end up with decent weather, that would be nice.

Great opportunity for both teams. This early in the season...not very telling as to how their success plays out for the duration!

I may be mistaken but I believe HHS "DI" QB was also coming out as a first time full starter for varsity.

A DI QB vs a 1st time starter and the DI QB got outplayed the entire game.

You keep mentioning the "Know it all" but when asked if you were talking about me you said no. So who is this know it all you keep speaking about?

 

i would love to refresh your memory the last time you posted about "The know it alls" and I replied and you turned and ran and hid saying it wasn't me you were talking about yet here you are again posting the same thing after one of my posts.

 

Seems you may feel a bit insecure. Hope not. If you are then I'm sorry for making you feel that way. I just tell it like it is and that's all. Also seeing how I've been away for about a year, I surely can't be the reason people don't post anymore. Unless it's because they missed me and decided to leave when I left. Then I can understand it. Pretty obvious from the article that Shoemaker has no clue what he is talking about. The picture of number 5 is not Brady Gosney. "Swiss Cheese" defense last year, please, this game was 23-13 before Highlands got desperate and turned the ball over in one way shape or form. Cooper wanted the HHS offense on the field last year early on as it was pretty obvious to everyone in attendance that the unit as a whole was struggling mightily to get anything going especially in the first half and defense was going to be a strong point for Cooper early on because they had so much returning on that side of the ball.

 

Cooper was the better team last year, and most likely wouldn't have mattered when they played because Cooper showed all year they were better by their play on the field. However that was last year, and last year means nothing for this season. Both teams get a chance to show who is better this year on Friday. It should be a good game and is a great test for two good programs to see where they are at to start the season this year. It should be a fun one to watch and good luck to both teams.

It would behoove the Birds to establish the running of Murray/Pulsfort early. They have excellent speed getting to the boundaries. Going between the tackles was a tough task vs St X last week and I expect that to improve as well.

 

The Birds have a ton of weapons at WR but the running game must come first to suck those DB's in a little. Posey and Huber can stretch a field for sure.

I think that would be a very smart way to go. Last year they couldn't establish the run which led to too many turnovers through the air for the Birds.

Jackson did not play in the scrimmage but I would assume he will be playing in the game Friday. Have not heard otherwise and I do believe that they are related. Justin Schlarman is a beast for Cooper. He is only the second freshman to over start a varsity game at Cooper. So this is his third year as a varsity starter and he is a junior! I expect a break out year for him

 

Found out from my son last night, Jacob from Boone and Justin from Cooper are brothers.

I noticed on Friday at the scrimmage with St. X that #3 and #24 I believe both left the game early. Not sure on #3 but #24 looked to hurt an ankle or knee. Are they both going to be healthy and good to go Friday? Was it more precautionary or were they legit injuries? From the stands it looked like #3 could have been concussion related. He was sitting with his helmet off staring into space while the trainer spoke to him.
