Fully realizing that things get edited I was never comfortable with how they handled/manipulated that kid.

The worst thing that happened to Dassey was his first attorney. He did not receive a good defense, and in fact his defense hurt his case.

I'd say the worst thing that happened was the officers coercing him but you're absolutely right that his public defender didn't do him any favors.

I don't remember, was Len Kachinsky a public defender or was he initially some sort of conflict counsel? I don't know what's worse - clients actually paying him or someone drawing him in the lawyer lottery.

It was hard to determine whether his defense attorney was defending him or prosecuting him. The guy should have been disbarred.

This is fair. His trial was very unfair, had the worst lawyer in the history of lawyers.

I never watched this and just know what I read on the thread on here. Was the attorney censured in anyway by the state bar for ineptitude of failing to provide a sound defense?

I don't know, but sure should have been. If it was fiction, it would have been unbelievable.

This kid needed this. I agree with MayfieldFan, this was unbelievable.

I don't really feel that they exactly coerced him. They kept asking him for the truth and to be honest, but did they actually threaten him or anything? Its their job to obtain a confession from him if they believe he broke the law. It's not their job to defend him. His attorney is supposed to defend him, and he didn't. In fact he had an investigator call him a liar, and then convince him to confess to police again without a lawyer present. That's much much worse.

Kachinsky is and will always be known as an embarrassment to the judicial system.

Judge has released him from prison.
