My son's HC quit exactly 7 years ago this week. Team, coaches and parents were in total disarray. Kid's rallied around each other and D-Coord that was promoted to interim coach and ran off 14 straight wins losing in the state finals.

 

Season isn't over, it's up to kids and coaches to pull together and move forward.

What a move. Unbelievable.

 

Agree. Really upset the apple cart for those kids. However, it looks as though the school(Magoffin) may have fueled the reason for abrupt departure. And if that is the case, it's hard to fault the coach, IMO.

Point well taken and I can see how someone would be upset but don't you 'owe' something to those kids? Finish the season, if you can do so without letting your personal feelings impact the result or how your represent your self or your kids.

It's sad we have to think that way, but I totally agree. This whole ordeal is horrible for all involved..that much it clear. But these coaches, their wives and entire families sacrifice, commit, give up so much (from time spent to other opportunities at better jobs when the timing is right to strike) and in doing so show much loyalty to the school district they are in.

 

But ask that same level of commitment and loyalty from those in charge for you and yours?

Yep...HD is spot on. Loyalty is gone in most facets of life, no shock when it happens anymore. Perhaps the school did this intentionally to get him to resign...Ive seen stranger things.

Just because 1 or 2 kids leave doesn't relieve you of the duty to coach up the 60 that are left.

I don't question his loyalty to the school district. I question his loyalty to the young men on the team who put their faith in him. That is who I think he has a responsibility to. 8 days before the season starts, I can't fathom walking out on my team at that stage in the game.

I hear you, but lets say your wife works at the school, and they fire her and then don't rehire her..........where does your loyalty lie first, in your personal family, or your coaching family?

Hypothetically, if it were me? Would keeping that coaching job equal me being disloyal to my wife? I'm sure she would have hurt feelings, but she is an adult. My changing jobs wouldn't help her situation any, she would still be unemployed. I think the damage to those kids is worse.

 

I doubt my opinion is a popular one, and that's OK. I also don't blame the coach for making that decision, because it is his life. I just know that in that same situation I don't think I could have made the same decision, and disappointed all those players, given the details we know. Of course, we probably don't know all the details and so it is probably not fair for any of us to criticize.

Ahh, I read that incorrectly in the article. Was he the defensive coordinator at Magoffin prior to taking the Clay County head coach job?
