July 21, 201610 yr How President Obama failed Black Lives Matter “Time and again, you make the split-second decisions that could mean life or death for you and many others in harm’s way,” Obama’s letter to law enforcement reads. Why is it that those split-second decisions so often leave black people dead or fearing for their lives? No life deserves to go unmourned, but when we mourn the death of police officers, we can’t allow their experience of violence to blind us to the realities of what policing in America looks like. If we are serious about protecting them, we would change the very structure of their jobs.
July 21, 201610 yr There are many in the black community that think President Obama has not done enough in this area.
July 21, 201610 yr Of course, every loss of life is tragic. But hundreds of police officers are not being killed every year. It is not a common occurrence to kill a police officer and not be charged with a crime. There are no foreign governments issuing travel advisories to their police officers cautioning them about their interactions with citizens. The amount of violence experienced by police officers is not comparable to that which they inflict. I can think of very few situations in which someone could kill a police officer and it not be a crime, thus why it's not a common occurence. On the other hand police officers are often justified in the force they use and I'd say at times forced to take someones lives in their hands. (Dallas shooter, etc.) If a cop is out of line, prosecute them and send them to jail, but it isn't a reflection on the entire profession. As far as changing the profession, IMO police have to have an authoritarian position and some power, as otherwise who would abide by them. For example if someone is being assulated they have to have authorization to step in to protect the victim even if that means use of force or even deadly force.

July 22, 201610 yr Author I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts, as well as PP92's, on the subject. President Obama can't win. White people and cops are mad because he doesn't say enough good stuff about cops and he doesn't turn the White House lights blue to show support for the cops like he did for the LGBT community. Black people are mad because he shows too much support to the cops and doesn't do enough to get the perspective of black people out to the masses. I am a President Obama loyal supporter until I die. I don't buy into anything any of his critics have had to say and I feel like he has been genuine to his true feelings. I am grateful for his service to our country as the Commander In Chief. He's been in a no win situation since day one and if I can be all of the way truthful I am glad I was wrong about him being assassinated if he won the POTUS election. He has made me more proud to be an American and I will miss him. He isn't a divider. He is simply a real man with real emotions who happened to serve as our POTUS for 8 years. His realness may not have been what people like but I have hated the realness of about 40 presidents before him......soooooo........whatever........zzzzzzzzz When I was a kid people said we'd never have a black president and he proved them wrong twice. Love that dude. Forever. He can't win but I love him and I thank him. The inspiration he has provided for people like myself and my kids will speak volumes hundreds of years from now.

July 22, 201610 yr I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts, as well as PP92's, on the subject. You have a lot of blacks who have expected him to be a stronger voice for equality and for speaking out against injustices. Then you have Chuck D who says he has done a great job but he just can't outwardly say the things he wants to say because he has to play the game. Vocal minority , though, is getting the attention. He's not going to march at a BLM march like many want. He's not going that far. I think his comments have been very supportive of the black community and to the issue of equality. I also believe his presidency has simply shown what many have been saying for a long time - still a long way to go in racial relations. Issues aren't new. The combo of him being POTUS and the ability to talk to so many like-minded people on social media has made the racism that was always there more obvious. People are now more comfortable with expressing it. My guess is that he's comfortable with what he's been able to accomplish through his words on the subject.
July 22, 201610 yr Disagree with Obama, you're racist. This. I hate his policies and the failed Obamacare that was rammed down our throat. I disagree with the picks he made for the Supreme Court. I think he is a good person, I just think he was in way over his head and had the worst advisers a POTUS could have. I thought President Carter was horrible too. Nixon was a criminal, much like Hillary.

People don't like Obama because he gave people a voice that had never had one before. I salute him for that. Can't wait to see who all the blame is put on the next four years. Some people are going to have to find a new hobby.

Don't you worry....The next 20 years or so, regardless of who is POTUS at the time, all problems will still be blamed on President Obama. You can take that to the bank.
July 22, 201610 yr For as long as I can remember the president has gotten blamed for stuff no matter how good or how bad they are. Heck many get credit for things they never really done.

Yeah but this is the first time I can recall a POTUS being called divisive with both sides of the divide saying he isn't doing enough for either side. :lol2: :lol2:
