ggclfan Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 How the putt did not go in for a 62 on 18 was CRAZY. I have told people before that God will not let anyone shoot a 62 in a Major. At all four majors, the record is 63 and has been tied 20+ times combined. Think about how weird it is that 63 is the low score at ALL FOUR majors. Phil's putt today reminded me of Tiger's putt on 18 at the PGA at Southern Hills 10+ years ago. No way that one did not go in either...divine guidance kept it out of the hole then as well IMO!!!
EZ Living Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 What if he makes the putt to finish with a 62 and -9, does that make it better than a 63 on a par 72 layout which is also -9? I was thinking about that when it happened. In my eyes -9 is -9 on the card whether it's a 61 on a par 70, 62 on a par 71 or a 63 on a par 72. It's still -9 on the card.
MJAlltheWay24 Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 How the putt did not go in for a 62 on 18 was CRAZY. That putt gets counted on every scramble team I've ever played on haha!

It's more about finishing 18 holes in 62 strokes than any number to par I think.
woodsrider Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Anyone not watching this final round is missing out. Stenson and Mickelson putting on a clinic.
Bluegrasscard Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Stenson not to be denied. Great dual. Phil could have folded his tent after Stenson got up by 2 but he kept fighting. Stenson ties Johnny M for low score in a major in the final round.
mcpapa Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 I watched the whole thing. Great golf by Phil; spectacular, historic record-setting golf by Stenson.
ggclfan Posted July 17, 2016 Author Posted July 17, 2016 I watched the whole thing. Great golf by Phil; spectacular, historic record-setting golf by Stenson. Agreed. Phil shot a 65 on Sunday without one bogey on his card. That wins 99% of the time. Stenson was just machine like today. He shot a 63 with two 3 putts. That is just insane. Great stuff by both!!! I am so happy about the last two major winners. I always like it when total studs win majors. I don't like it when fringe pros just get hot one week and win a major (eg: Ben Curtis, Todd Hamilton, etc.). I want those guys to win the Greater Milwaukee Open, not the US Open or British Open. Dustin Johnson and Henrik Stenson both FINALLY got their majors and are both incredibly deserving.
tcjkbt Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 I was unable to view the telecast after the fourth hole or so. I commented to my wife that NBC was probably angry that it was a two-horse race between the leaders since Henrik and Phil were so far ahead of the field with the result that the viewing public might be less interested compared to a final round that had 5-6 golfers in genuine contention. In reading some of the comments, however, it seems that many posters liked the mano a mano duel. Which is more entertaining for you: two guys going head to head for 18 holes with no one else in contention or having many players in contention? I choose the latter.
Clyde Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 This was not a financial bonanza for Phil. Due to the decrease in the pound his winnings were $108k less than it would have been 3 weeks ago. Add in that about 60% of the winnings will go to British, US federal, and CA state taxes.
ggclfan Posted July 18, 2016 Author Posted July 18, 2016 That is interesting that all the US golfers took a hit with the currency changes since the Brexit. Luckily for all of them, the US stock market is at an all time high. I think they will manage to get by:)...
