July 14, 201610 yr An Idaho man who told police he identifies as a woman was arrested Tuesday after allegedly taking photos of a woman in a Target fitting room, officials said. Sean Patrick Smith, 43, was allegedly dressed in women’s clothing when he entered the fitting room in the women’s section of the store in Ammon on Monday, East Idaho News reported. Smith, also known as Shauna Patricia Smith, then began taking pictures of a woman in the changing stall next to him, police said. “The woman was begging for help as she chased the man out the door,” a witness told East Idaho News. “She kept saying she wanted those pictures deleted.” Detectives found Smith on Tuesday and charged him with one felony count of voyeurism. He was booked into the Bonneville County Jail and was set to make a court appearance Wednesday. Target announced in April that “transgender team members and guests” were welcome “to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity.” Transgender woman arrested in voyeurism incident at Idaho Target | Fox News
July 14, 201610 yr I though we were told that this wouldn't happen. We were. Several times in that thread if I remember correctly.
July 14, 201610 yr Actual transgender or crossdresser? That article lacks... well... facts. Does it matter? Article said he "identifies" as a transgender...I thought that's all it took?
July 14, 201610 yr Does it matter? Article said he "identifies" as a transgender...I thought that's all it took? Heck I don't know, but if it's a dude dressed as a woman he could've gotten in there before all this, transgender-friendly rule or not. And ultimately the person got arrested for voyeurism. Put the story out there, hopefully it'll discourage other creeps.

July 14, 201610 yr I know this is the sort of shocking story people are looking for to fuel outrage, but I don't think it helps make any points. This person committed a felony and was arrested for it, but if Target didn't have trans-friendly restroom the perp wouldn't have crossed that line of decency on their way to committing a felony? I don't see how it would have made a bit of difference. As Getslow said, we don't even know if the person was actually transgender or simply donning a disguise to sneak into the women's fitting room.
July 14, 201610 yr All I know is that guy is going to need a ton of work done and even then he's probably going to make an ugly woman.

Well said. Having a "law" wouldn't have prevented this from happening. And law or not, what this person did once inside is a crime, and is being dealt with just fine under existing laws. The right to be there, doesn't give the right to commit a crime.

July 14, 201610 yr If he doesn't have the right to be there and isn't does a crime get committed? You're missing the point. Even if there was a law that "prevented" him from using the ladies room, he still could have gone in. No law would prevent him from entering the ladies room, nor would it have changed the final outcome, which is him getting arrested. Do you really believe he wouldn't have attempted this if a law had been in place??
