Rod Serling's Twilight Zone and Night Gallery

Featured Replies

Just wondering if there are other fans of Rod Serling on BGP. I think the guy was absolute genius. He could scare you to death and give you an epiphany about life at the same time. I've seen all of the Twilight Zone episodes multiple times and I loved his creepy 70's series called "Night Gallery."

Do you have a favorite Twilight Zone or Night Gallery episode? I loved so many of them.

One of my favorites. Nine foot tall aliens called Kanamits come to Earth, speaking telepathically and promising peace and good will. They leave a behind a book at the UN, written in some cryptic alien language. The title of the book was decoded: "TO SERVE MAN." Seems altruistic enough... or is it???

Can't remember the name of the episode but Burgess Meridith is a voracious reader with very bad eye sight. He he made fun of by family and co-workers because he loves to read. He survives the apocalypse in a bank vault. After finding the local library and planning his reading the unthinkable happens, his glasses fall off his face and break.

Others I remember fondly (I don't remember titles, sorry) :

To Serve Man (it's a cook book),

Guy granted immortality in exchange for his soul, gets bored trying different methods to kill himself, kills his wife so he can try the electric chair but his lawyer gets him life instead.

William Shatner as the skittish airline passenger who see a gremlin on the wing of the plane. Was remade with John Lithgow in the motion picture.

Twilight Zone is still a great show.

I've always loved the haunting Jerry Wallace song, "If You Leave Me Tonight I will Cry." In this episode of Night Gallery, Serling weaves the tune into an episode called "The Tune in Dan's Cafe." A couple( Pernell Roberts and the beautiful Susan Oliver), whose relationship is on the rocks, stops off at a lonely little cafe on the side of the road. The jukebox plays only one song, regardless of what is chosen and the song always gets stucks on the same part ... " Words like til death.... til death ...til death... "

Here's just a little snippet.

Nightmare At 20,000 feet, where William Shatner repeatedly sees a gremlin on the wing of an airplane.

Boy, it sure is Alltell. Some good episodes you pointed out. The Burgess meredith one is a classic.

Do you remember the episode with Donna Douglas(Elly Mae Clampett)?

The Night Gallery episode that has always stuck with me is the one about the earwig. Spooky.

Personal favorite Twilight Zone episodes:

"The Monsters are Due on Maple Street"

"An Occurrance at Owl Creek Bridge"

"The Man in the Cave"

"A Game of Pool"

"Night of the Meek"

"One for the Angels"

... just too many to name.

SyFy has a Twilight Zone marathon until 3:00 in the morning. My favorite episode is on at 10:00 tonight.

Serling was a true tv genius. Also the Planet of the Apes is one of the best sci fi movies ever.

The best laid plans of mice and men...and Henry Bemis.

Yes! That's the one I always think of.

A short clip of the ending of "Eye of the Beholder."

This channel has had a marathon on New Year's Eve and Day for a number of years. I enjoy seeing the actors and recalling their careers. For example, on this episode the "ugly" woman was Donna Douglas who was Elly Mae on the Beverly Hillbillies (don't think she had much of a career though after the Hillbillies).
