June 22, 201610 yr Author We came up with another possibility at work today...what about "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston? We felt that even the old die-hard country fans who may associate the song normally with Dolly, would still know that the song had been redone by Whitney.

And you definitely know it. As does my 72-year-old dad and 69-year-old mom. And everybody down and up to any age who watches any kind of sports.

Having gone to clubs and bars through Europe, you are more likely to hear Billy Jean than Thriller, and it is not close. Virtually every time you go out you hear Billy Jean.

June 23, 201610 yr At the risk of gaying this topic up... Not sure if everyone young and old knows that "YMCA" was done by the Village People, but it seems to be a novelty song that has lasted generations. Bizarrely, it's obviously a gay based tongue-in-cheek tune about hanging out with the guys at the health club, but somehow it seems to have become an anthem more or less for the general public, and more so for the straight world of all ages it would seem than even the gay world. Sure it's catchy, but considering its lyrics, it's kinda strange that it's so well known and sung my the masses at sporting events etc... Most however are probably not too familiar with all the lyrics except for the chorus part of the tune. "It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A ...." A couple of years ago I took an out-of-town friend on the The Ducks tour boat on the Ohio River and sure enough while we were riding through the streets of Cincinnati the man on the mic had the the patrons of the entire boat singing the song to all the folks on the street while we were passing by.

June 24, 201610 yr It matters as to the point of this thread though.... Is the name and/or title of the song so important as the melody? or a catchy line or hook? When it comes to this song, I say no. This song will still be chanted at stadiums worldwide for many decades.
