June 15, 201610 yr ...what should I do?:idunno: Remember, it takes money to actually GO on vacation. I hear hotels in Orlando are real cheap right now! Just remember to stay away from terrorists, alligators, and unstable celebrity stalkers!
June 16, 201610 yr Do you have to take it all in 2016 or are you permitted to carry over? Where I worked for years the most we could have was 30 days accumulated and we could not carry it over from year to year. As a head of a department, making sure my staff got their time taken before the end of then year it became difficult at times for me to take time off. Where I worked, we had similar issues. Vacation time was carried over, but there was a 30-day cap. Several employees were losing time earned that put them over the cap. What I did was start a program where employees could "cash in" pretty much as many hours as they wanted for half their current wage. Killed two birds with one stone - folks got something for the time they had earned, and accrued vacation time liability on the books was lowered. The Board didn't want to go to starting each employee at zero vacation hours at the beginning of each fiscal year, so this was the compromise.
June 16, 201610 yr Treasure Island Florida. The folks that own this little motel are fantastic. They run a nice clean old school Florida motel right across from the beach. $400 a week. Treasure Island Motel - Ebb Tide Motel in Treasure Island Florida
June 16, 201610 yr Take a day and visit us in Bardstown. Plan it right and we'll get the Danville crew and some of the other BGP folks and have us a BBQ. Get there early enough and I might be working at the bar. I'll serve you up some bourbon and a slice of delectable butterscotch pie.

Unfortunately, we lost anything not taken over 30 by the first of the new year. What was bad was I had a few long time staff that racked up a lot of time and they would wait until the last few months of the year to get time taken.
June 16, 201610 yr An older guy my father worked with would take his six weeks vacation every other year as the last 6 weeks of one year and the first 6 of the following. With holidays he had about 13 weeks off. He traveled around the world every other year taking different routes. Problem was that in between jaunts he worked about 90 straight weeks with only holidays and sick time to use. Of course they received quite a few holidays and sick days to use.

As a head of a department, making sure my staff got their time taken before the end of then year it became difficult at times for me to take time off. I can carry over up to, I believe it's 450 hours, based on my time of service. Any hours I carry over after that number get converted to sick time, so I technically don't lose the hours. And when you retire, you want as many vacation hours as you can have, cause you get paid for them, and that's a crap pot full of money...but that's a few years down the road for me.
