If one Gator had ever been spotted then it's Disney's responsibility to be transparent to their dollar spending guests. It's irresponsible for them to put any of their guests in danger if they know Gators may be present and don't post signs advising.

 

 

From what I understand, there are several of these signs, and similar signs, throughout the property.

So several years ago we stayed at the Polynesian resort, with a beach with lawn chairs and hammocks on that same lake. Signs said "No Swimming". The kids were really little. We did not swim in the lake---did not need to, as there was a pool nearby to swim in. But my kids built a big sandcastle with that beautiful beach sand on that man made beach. And they were filling up their little sand pails with water from the "No Swimming" lake. I remember it like it was yesterday. Never crossed my mind that a gator could grab my kid. Were they swimming? No. Just going up to the waters edge and filling their little buckets.

 

Disney is liable for this tragedy.

 

So did you ever question why the sign said "no swimming"? If your kids had asked you to go walk through the water, despite there being a sign there saying no swimming, would you have let them?

Are you going to hold a golf course accountable if a golfer gets bit and/or killed by an alligator in Florida?

If the movies didn't prove it already, the last few weeks definitely prove that we should never have a park filled with dinosaurs.

I don't think Disney should be at fault here but that could just be me. I feel awful for the family.

And yet....They had a sign up that said to not go in the water. Family ignored the warning, and went into the water. Would you allow your kids to go in the water if there was a clear sign that said to not do so?

 

And it's Florida. Everyone with a brain knows that there are alligators in bodies of water in Florida.

And you are right, Disney will probably pay, but it won't be because they are liable. It will be because of people like you who refuse to accept accountability for own negligence, and the ensuing consequences.

 

There are signs that say no swimming. it isn't up to you to determine whether or not the sign is justified. It says no swimming, so don't do it. There are signs that also say that there it was a wildlife habitat, and that there are alligators in the water. Any reasonable person (and I realize that reasonable people are few and far between in today's society) would be smart enough not to go in the water.

Disney creates an idyllic setting encouraging people to come, sit, relax---with only a "No Swimming" warning? Could not cough up some extra cash to put a more detailed sigh as to WHY there is no swimming? Perhaps because that kind of a sigh would surely be a DETERRENT to folks opening their wallet to pay >$500 per night?

Where is the beach in this picture? This setting is NOT the same as the setting at the Grand Floridian BEACH resort.

 

And why do they call it a BEACH resort?

There aren't signs around Hilton Head Island warning of giant killers swimming in the water right off the beach, but I have caught probably 30 sharks now that have weighed more than 100 lbs. Does this mean I can sue HHI if one of these sharks bites me while I'm swimming in THEIR natural habitat?
