But Mom and Dad aren't to blame when they blatantly disregard park rules, and enter areas that they are restricted from being in...because it's dangerous?

 

Each us have responsibility to protect our children, and each of us are sick about losing this child in the horrific accident. And I get the psychology to want to quickly project our anger and sadness into someone/something else etc.

 

But I will maintain that if Disney knows there are alligators lurking nearby – the access should have been truly restricted, more than a warning sign.

All our gorilla experts must have spent the last week studying up on gators. :sssh:

F!orida is a giant swamp and why the University of Florida is nicknamed the Gators.p. If there are (and there are) signs posted warning about alligators then this is on the parents. I hate to use stupid, id rather use naive or arrogance. Yes a sign is posted warning of alligators but they won't come after a human. Humans as a whole are arrogant when it comes to animals.

 

We went to Disney for a week in the beginning of April. Made the long drive down 75. If you aren't aware of the alligators popularity byh time you get to Orlando then you are blind or slept the whole drive. We stayed at Port Orleans which had a moat around the resort that was about 30-40 feet wide. My 3 year old and 7 year old obviously wanted to get as close as possible. We were very adamant about not venturing near the waters edge as we couldn't see what was lurking beneath the surface. We visited every resort one day just to see how the other halves live. Signs galore about alligators.

 

Horrible tragedy I can't imagine how you react in this situation, but the park can't be blamed.

 

Which Port Orleans? I'm staying at Riverside end of July/beginning of August and have never been before.

 

Headed to Disney in a few days. Having to calm my wife's nerves on these recent tragedies.

As mentioned above, I'm going end of July/beginning of August. I had to calm my girlfriend's nerves on Sunday when that news broke. Haven't had talked about this news yet but I'm sure I'll have to calm her nerves on this too.

I’m always surprised at how quick people are to blame the victim (or family of victim)… this and the zoo gorilla attack being prime examples.

 

Both are horrific freaky accidents. However, if forced to place negligence, it is clearly at the foot of the institutions imo.

 

This in some manner is coming at me (which is fine) but let me clarify something. I did not blame the mom for the kid getting into the gorilla pit, I said the mom should be charged with the death of an endangered animal because her action (lack there of) lead to the gorillas death.

Not sure why you're highlighting beaches... If it says No Swimming, it means No Swimming.

OK. Let's say kid was at the same place building a sand castle on the BEACH at the water's edge, and the gator came out of the water and took him. Gator's CAN do that, right? Sign said "No Swimming" and he was not in the water.

Yes'm.

Who's to say they don't remove them, and they find a way back in? They have warning signs posted that say the alligators are there, and that's why it's restricted areas. If you ignore that, it's on you, not Disney.

 

As has been stated, the signs stated "Restricted area No Swimming." Did not mention alligators were present. I'll bet they do now. Nebraska family would not have thought about gators. They should have, but didn't. In Nebraska, those signs mean no swimming because there is no lifeguard. It is a terrible mistake, but to me, completely understandable. I could have done that with my child, never giving it a second thought.

 

My heart goes out to the family. There are no words to bring comfort.

No signs about alligators. Watched Good Morning America this morning and with sad faces the news anchors reported the signs said restricted no swimming but did not mention the possibility of gators. Disney is the parent company of ABC Good Morning America so I feel they probably got that information correct.

 

Then can we sue God in Kentucky because of all the deer people hit with their car?

 

Can't sue God but when a deer hits a motorcyclist the motorcyclist should be able to sue the deer and the deer's family for all they are worth.

"Disney World announced that it has closed all of the BEACHES at its properties." (Yes--they refer to the area around the lake as a beach.)

 

This occurred at "Grand Floridian BEACH and Spa". (There is that word again.)

 

"A lifeguard was too far away to provide immediate aid." (I believe that if a lifeguard is there, perhaps swimming is allowed at some parts of so called man made lake with gators.?)

 

Lifeguard could have been riding the alligator and been too far away to provide aid.

But to play along, that still isn't the parks fault. Are they really supposed to keep all Florida wildlife off ALL their properties? That's literally impossible.
