Why It's Time to Repeal The 2nd Amendment

Featured Replies

Some are so terrified of change it's unbelievable.

Yep. It's fear-mongering at it's finest IMO.

Yes, this is what people do who call for more restrictive gun legislation right after a shooting. They do it while the people are afraid and will agree to anything just to be kept safe. People in crisis react psychologically by trying to determine what would have prevented the crisis in the first place. This is crisis counseling 101.

To capitalize on this psychological reaction is fear-mongering and it is solely the purview of the anti-2nd amendment crowd: "Do something! Even if it has nothing to do with the problem or will ultimately make matters far worse." Just do something.

Let's hope clearer heads prevail and we take time to sift through all the bull and identify the real issues and find legitimate solutions.

In theory this sounds great but if you are in American citizen you have the right to due process. You can not take a right without said due process. It's more scary to me to give a government the right to take away a right without due process or proof of guilt.

Now the way around this specific case would be for the president to declare war on these groups and anyone who openly supported those groups could be charged with treason.

Agree 100% with the bolded section.

The Constitution was written by the elite of that time, and a largely drafted to protect their interests. The whole electoral college system was designed to make sure the masses couldn't completely control who was elected President. And at the time, the voting class didn't include non property owners, slaves, Native Americans or women..if you weren't a rich white guy, you had no interests that were protected since you couldn't vote, and those classes were completed excluded from the drafting of the constitution. Many of the founding fathers were pretty candid that only the "rich, well born and able" (John Adams words) should lead this country. When Joe Six-Pack has a chance to run for and win a high level, government position, then maybe we can say we have a government that is truly run by the people. The elite/rich have always been the ruling class in this country.

And yet a man I know with a GED earned while in prison was able to tell a police officer that he could not come in his home unless he had a search warrant. The officer ordered him to let him in and the man refused. He told the LEO that if he entered his house he would be violating his constitutional rights. BTW, the conviction was later overturned and his record expunged (because he was innocent and the guilty party was arrested and is now serving his sentence).

LEO backed off because this man was right. He was by no means elite. He worked odd jobs at the time doing handyman type stuff. But even he had the full protection of the constitution.

I'd say those elite men during the Revolutionary War period understood government tyranny and drew up a document to keep it from happening in the U S of A. It requires a knowledgeable and diligent citizenry, a citizenry that understands justice and righteousness, to maintain our rights and work out the full implications of those rights acknowledged by our founding documents. Give honor where honor is due. As a result, an African American was elected President of the United States of America. I rejoiced the day that happened because of what it meant for how far our country had come and that the rights acknowledged at our nation's beginning were be applied to all humans without regard to skin color, ethnicity, religion, etc. We have a long way to go, but under the law, all men and women are being treated equally.

Yes, even lawmakers.

If that were true we wouldn't have had a useless ban in 90s that was based on lies, half truths and fear of how something looked.

And yet we all still survived, and folks still owned guns...

Some are so terrified of change it's unbelievable.

So much so that quite a while back, someone (I can't remember if it was me or not but I don't think so) posited that if a gun ban that guaranteed a total absence of gun violence were to occur, could we get behind it.

That turned out to be too horrible to even contemplate.

The bull may be the fact that nothing is ever done on this issue before or after a shooting.

I really thought this one would have motivated the right to move: a Muslim uses a gun to mass murder allegedly in the name of ISIS. But I guess not.

Folks, if we waited to talk about this stuff well after each such incident...

No time like the present.

Papa, you must have glossed over most of this thread. The reason we have guns is to keep the govt in line.

@mcpapa ... we might be able to discuss the real issues in our country that contribute to gun violence. But we insist on blaming an inanimate object that has no ability to decide, or act on its own while ignoring the real culprit.

:lol2:

Try appearance of said weapon.

Like all congressional compromises that one was flawed. Rather than fix adjust it, we chose to repeal it. Great plan.

And others are okay with shooting down suggestions and stifling conversation while searching for some kind of change and resolution. All is well though, screw it. I hope none of us are around next time an American born radicalized Islamist on the No Fly list decides to shoot up the spot with his 2nd Amendment protected gun.

Carry on!!!!!!! Don't mind us!!!!

Any resistance to these suggestions shouldn't be met with responses like this if progress is what you want.

I've made nothing but reasonable comments. None have been rude in aby way.

Well you're just screwed then. Can't trust the people with guns. Can't trust the people to regulate the guns. May as well get to building that bunker and hiding underground to stay safe.

There are millions of people with guns in the US who never do anything wrong with them. Why can't they be trusted?

Saying the gun is the problem in a mass shooting is the same as saying the vehicle and the alcohol are the problem in drunk driving. The drugs are the problem in drug abuse. The bomb is the problem in a bombing.

Let's be honest for a change, for those complaining about the gun, it's the person that is the problem, not the method they use.

Not one gun was used in the 9/11 attack.
