Rockcastle County 2 Corbin 0

In 2002, Corbin beat Russell County 2-0 in a mudfest thanks to a Levi Skeen sack.

It happened in 2001...but still...that's crazy that a game ended at 2-0 and even crazier that one program has been on the winning and now the losing side of a 2-0 game ESPECIALLY within a span of 6 seasons.

I thought the play calling was not at it's best tonight for the Redhounds, it is hard for me to believe that the Redhounds game plan was to run it up the middle against a bigger and stronger front line of Rockcastle. When you run it on 1st and 2nd down and then throw it on 3rd down, it's not real hard for the opposing team to figure out what you are doing. All week long we heard how Rockcastle was going to blow out the Redhounds with this being their best team in years and some predicting them to win 3A state championship. If this is their best team in years it looks as if the Redhounds will have a very successful run at a 2A state championship if they can get their offensive woes lined out.

From what I've heard from people at the game....the play calling on the Rockcastle County side wasn't much better.

I couldn't tell from not seeing the game, but I would have liked to have seen the Rockets utilize their big O line more and run the smashmouth football like I expected to see.

Izak McQueary had a tough time behind center tonight and I expect him to get better each week. This is a very bright young man with a good head on his shoulders who will get things straightened out. My ONLY question was why did Dusty Miller see a limited number of carries tonight? J/W.

Maybe time for a change in the offensive thinking for the Hounds......What would the Hounds do with someone who would open it up and toss the ball around the field....the tight end position is a glorified guard in the offensive scheme used by the Hounds....what is the deal with French? He is a heck of an athlete to be standing on the sidelines....I thought he would be an impact. Mike Campbell is another athlete that was not featured in the attack. at 5'11 and 235 you would think he would be the one taking the ball up the middle not Sewell who is at best 140 ish....I think the Hounds got beat by a power team running to their strengths and the Hounds were stuck in the mindset that they could run it down the throats of a bigger and stronger Rock team...fatal mistake in my opinion...but heck what do I know.

Both teams were hit hard by loss of momentum. The refs affected the outcome of the game. There were so many penalties called that were un called for. Corbin had 70 yards in penalties, Rock had 55. Neither offense could get into rythm because of this as well. Cashen went out right at the start of the 4th quarter, not sure why. Rock held Corbin to 26 rushing yards and 14 passing yards for a total of 40 yards of offense. Rock had 199 yards rushing and 27 passing for a total of 126 yards of offense. Rock had the ball inside the 5 four different times and penalties would back them out of the red zone everytime. Corbin will be in the hunt in mid November, I guarrantee it.

I agree that the officiating, while not horrible, took its toll on both teams. There was a roughing the punter called that was missed which would have given Corbin a first. Then there was a late hit by Corbin that was missed. There were some other penalties that were iffy on both sides too. The rest was just common mistakes made by first game jitters. Again, I'll say this watch out for both teams this year. You may just see both of them in Louisville.

Anyone have any stats?

Rushing:

Rock 199

Corbin 45

Passing:

Rock 27

Corbin 14

1st Downs

Rock 10

Corbin 3

Looks as if Rock dominated the game on stats. Had one TD called back.

Rock line won the trenches but the backs need to hit the hole harder and faster.

Is there any hope for this game becoming a yearly event again? It needs to be and there is no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

I thought Corbin's D-line held up pretty well against a far bigger and stronger line from Rock. I don't see how you can say they won the trenches. Corbin also had a TD called back on a punt return so those two equal each other out. As for Rock dominating the game, if you call starting their two best drives inside the opponets 40 yard line and then Corbin holding them out of the endzone on goal line stands dominating I don't see it. Rock has no chance to win a State Championship with their QB. He doesn't throw the ball well enough to be able to sustain drives. If Rock couldn't run the ball at will against Corbin's overmatched line then it is hard for me to believe that come playoff time they will be able to man handle far better teams than Corbin.

Haven't seen a score like this in a while. I actually played in a 2-0 win back in peewee, 1985 still talk about it until this game, something you won't forget since it's so odd.

When I mentioned the line won the trenches, that goes for the whole game and the stats speak for themselves. I mean Rock ran up the gut with their fullback for about 60 yards on the night. Other times Corbins line did indeed penetrate the LOS. As far as Rock's DL, they dominated Corbins OL. Only 26 yards on the ground with 25 attempts. Corbins line is strong indeed, that is no secret. Rocks line is as well. Both teams matched up well, I feel this wil be annual game for now on. Rock was beaton by 34 points last year, everyone counted them out and then they went toe to toe with the State Champions in the SEMI's. Rock progresses as the season goes on. They hav ebeen traditionally slow starters on the year. No surprise for us Rock fans. Sloppy play and flags cause a lot of problems for teams early on, as it did tonight for both squads. Rock still leads the overall series 7-4.

He has been in the doghouse. Corbin needs him and Campbell to become factors.

The offense was very predictable tonight................and Rock was too good defensively for that to be effective. The season is young though.

Many standouts defensively for Corbin...........Martin, Madon, Woody, Sanders, etc., right on down the line.:thumb:

This is a football forum...why are we giving baseball scores?

I did like what I saw out of Campbell at Defensive Tackle. He is a hosscat and would blow right through the Rock OL. I've never heard of a running back playing DT on defense until today.
