Champions of Region 16, Greenup Co. (39-1) will play Region 7 Champion St. Xavier (25-12) on Thursday in the opening round of the Rawlings/KHSAA State Tournament @ 6:00p.m. Arguably one of the most intriguing first round match-ups. Thoughts? Predictions?

Hate to see these two playing in the first round.

The entire top bracket is loaded and this game is the toughest I like the Tigers because they have been there but GC has only one loss they have to be awesome!

Drove to Regionals just to see the Musketeers play. These guys got all the way to the semi-finals last year, so I really don't think the big stage will be uncomfortable at all. What I saw was a very sound defense that played solid, fundamental baseball throughout the order. Exceptional up the middle...catcher, SS, 2nd base, and centerfield. Plate discipline, smallball experts, with a couple that can bang it out. If there is a weakness, it might be the absence of a true fireballer. But, their pitch to contact philosophy has worked with their record of 54-2 over the last season and one-half.

 

Sure would like some GC members to share season player stats. The more, the better.

And, that schedule included a bevy of West Va. top teams, NKy's quality programs, Central Ky top 10 teams, and double defeats this year of #1 pitcher in Ky Cameron Planck of Rowan Co. These guys are ready to make a run and will not have stage fright taking on St. X at Whitaker.

Throw records out the window...one game. Many teams with excellent records and stats are out. Two excellent teams...too close to call

The first game of the tournament will come down to who has the best pitcher pitching. X's strength is definitely their pitching, so we shall see. Should be a great game.

For those of you that don't know and read Post#80. Hughes of GC leads them in almost every category. He is their junior shortstop that has committed to Xavier. He throws right, bats left, and has a rifle for an arm. Might be the best infielder the state (haven't seen any better, but haven't seen them all) and hits for power and average. Press is so absent on high school baseball, it's a real void of information on quality players out of one's area.

Thanks for the triple correction. Did I get the part right that he might be best in state? Only saw him bat left, GC fan next to me told me the other stuff. Golly, it would be great to hear more from you Musketeers about your awesome team. I thought membership on BGP made bragging rights a requisite.
