Copa America

Featured Replies

Didn't see either match last night but it seems like Ecuador/Peru was fantastic from start to finish.

Knock on wood, but it looks like a USA/Brazil quarterfinal in New York is far more likely than not at this point.

Ecuador and Peru was a highly entertaining game. The way the matchups are set, it looks like Brazil and Ecuador will advance from that group

Venezuela! Wow!

The last ten minutes of that game were outstanding. Edison Cavani would like another shot at his two chances. Should have put that first one away.

But he didn't and the 77th ranked team in the world is through to the Copa America quarterfinals. Outstanding.

I could find a parade of elite U12 players that would have buried that first chance....that miss was simply crazy. The immediate reaction from his teammates bordered on comical for me as you saw them in the background from a number of replays.

Watched Mexico and Jamaica, and while I'm not sure why really, I find myself rooting against Mexico with the intensity of 1,000 suns.

Man, that is really well said.

These are the nights that even non-soccer guys like @Clyde have to be somewhat into the match.

Let's go USA!!!

Was not aware of this game being played. I knew the tourney was being played but haven't followed it.

Euro 2016 gets underway today at 3:00 p.m. with France vs. Romania

In Copa America, two more games tonight. Group C is locked up with Mexico and Venezuela advancing, but the other 3 groups are still wide open.

So far, I think Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela have advanced. Brazil is all but a lock. USA needs a win or a draw. Ecuador is in pretty good shape if they take care of business.

I love soccer summers...

I'll take a stab at the final 8:

Colombia vs. Ecuador

Argentina vs. Venezuela

Brazil vs. USA

Mexico vs. Chile

Agreed. Panama had a nice win against Bolivia, but I expect that Chile will pour it on against them tonight and run up a differential that will force Panama to attack Chile the final game, which is something they simply can't do.

Brazil bringing a seriously weakened side to the tournament might just make that quarterfinal interesting. If the semifinals are somehow USA/Mexico and Colombia/Argentina, they'll be a sight to behold.

Paraguay only has one point in Group A. If the US can withstand what I imagine will be significant early pressure, like both Colombia and Costa Rica tried, then we should be all set. Maybe snag something early on a counter play like we did against CR.

If it is USA / Mexico in the semi's, this country will be as engaged, or more so, than they were for the match with Belgium in the World Cup in 2014. For a few days, this will be a soccer-crazy country, and it will be a ball!

Panama went down to 10 men, and Argentina brought Messi and Kun in...that is exactly what unfair means. It would be like having 3 subs in BBALL and using two on MJ and Steph Curry in their prime.

Messi is the man.

He was unbelievable. Why can't we have one?:ylsuper:

I'm proud of our boys! Deuce, Guzan, and Brooks are the man. However, watching USMNT vs Paraguay and Costa Rica keeps reminding me about what an off night we had in Santa Clara.
