June 6, 201610 yr Uruguay played much better when they were down a man. Does anyone know what their beef was immediately before and especially after the go-ahead Mexico goal? I saw somewhere that maybe they thought someone was offsides, although I didn't see anyone offsides, but their goalie looked like he was complaining about a Mexican player holding him. It got ugly.:idunno: I was watching in Spanish so I couldn't tell exactly what the argument was...but they were very upset.
June 6, 201610 yr Really looking forward to Argentina-Chile tonight. Has the potential to be the best game of the first round but if the tournament so far has been any indication, there's really only been one good game and it was the Mexico/Uruguay match yesterday. I really don't like that the teams expected to finish first and second in every single group are meeting on the first match day. Why not vary it a little so we don't get stuff like Brazil and Ecuador basically kicking it back and forth for a while knowing they both plan to go full throttle against Peru and Haiti?
June 7, 201610 yr Messi who? Definitely looking like their No. 1 ranking. It's an embarrassment of riches when you can send Gonzalo Higuain to the bench and replace him with Sergio Aguero. That was the best game I've seen so far in the tournament. Might be able to make a case that those are the two best teams in the field right now (despite the impressive performance from Mexico).
June 7, 201610 yr Embarrassing moment for those responsible for the playing of the national anthems, they played the national anthem of Chile instead if Uruguay. Still not as bad as Roseanne Barr or Carl Lewis singing the correct one.
June 7, 201610 yr Any lineup or formation changes for tonight? I expect either Wood or Zardes to head to the bench, especially if they change formations, possibly Jones as well. They may need Jones' toughness tonight though against what I feel will be a very physical Costa Rica team.

He brought Nagbe and Pulisic in at the same time on Friday and I can't help but wonder if that's a preview for tonight. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see Jones and Wood take a seat in favor of those two at the start. I think he'll leave everyone else the same at the start.
June 7, 201610 yr Messi, how strong are these rumors that he may end up at Man United? I know that he has issues with the courts and all in Spain, but would he want to get out of Spain and leave his club?
June 7, 201610 yr I'm excited about tonight. It's a must win match IMO. Absolutely. Win or it's over. Nervous for how our guys will perform, but nights like this are why I fell in love with this game.

June 7, 201610 yr No changes for USA. Exact same eleven. In truth, the fact that there's no change is, in itself, a change. At least he's letting the back four play together again.
June 8, 201610 yr Author Absolutely. Win or it's over. Nervous for how our guys will perform, but nights like this are why I fell in love with this game. Man, that is really well said. These are the nights that even non-soccer guys like @Clyde have to be somewhat into the match. Let's go USA!!!
