Child Falls Into Gorilla Pit

Featured Replies

Are we to assume you are a vegetarian and you wear vinyl shoes? Those cows didn't do anything to you? Or do you rationalize it since they are raised to be eaten?

Perhaps I missed it, but where did Clyde say he was against the killing of animals?

Kid climbs the fence and someone sees the potentially vicious dog go after the kid and shoots the dog to save the kid from harm. I find fault in the mom, not the 3rd party who shot the dog. Mom needs to pay for the dog. I think the family needs to pay for the gorilla in this zoo situation. The zoo getting sued is ridiculous. But I'm sure it will happen.

So we agree it's ludicrous (or ludacris for the younger generation) to say the parents need to be charged, correct?

There's one person in this thread not rationalizing.

I've already stated I'm not against hunting even though I do not hunt.

I am saying again that while it's unfortunate for the gorilla it's no different than the deer that gets shot in its own habitat or the shark that gets caught doing nothing other than looking for food.

Add in that we're talking about an animal that someone caught and transported thousands of miles away from its own habitat and stuck it in a zoo.

You're either OK with the pecking order (ie people are smarter than animals and know how to hunt and kill them or to capture them) or you're not. No middle ground.

I'm OK with the pecking order. Works well for me.

Charged with what? Trespassing, child endangerment? I don't believe they should get charged with either one.

What about them having to pay to bring another gorilla to replace the one that had to be killed. I'm ok with that.

People are saying parents should be charged.

No. I would not ask them to pay. Zoo is culpable as well.

I'm not against hunting. However' date=' it's pure rationalization to be OK with one animal being killed but not another. The animals didn't do anything to deserve to be killed, right? The TAC family isn't going hungry if you don't bring home a deer , right? It's not a matter of TAC family survival. It's fun for you.[/quote'] Clyde did you read Animal Farm some animals are more equal than others.

Charged and pay. How many hundreds of millions of kids have went past that exhibit in 38 years without incident? Charged and pay

A child's almost death by Gorilla isnt a big enough situation, got it.

It was an accident. Certainly the mom should have had better control of her child, but this is far from neglect. Any parent who can say they have never been distracted by one child and a second one takes off is either lying or incredibly lucky.

Too many terrible parents out there burning, beating, and not feeding their children on purpose. CPS may look into this particular situation, but highly doubtful anything will come of it.

Not buying it. Like I stated, how many millions of kids and parents have walked past that exhibit in 38 years without any incident whatsoever. Give her some kind of hard community service and make her pay in some fashion. Zoo not accountable at all. 38 years years without incident,38 years without incident

I am not saying she should not be held accountable. If I am at fault in an accident, I expect to pay the price for damage, but not likely get arrested. I have no problem with that family paying some kind of damage restitution.

I am just saying that Child Protective Services likely would not get involved significantly involved in this, as plantman suggested.

Not arrested. Community service

I think the prior level of safety is a factor here. Almost 40 years and no safety incidents. Hard to blame this on the zoo, IMO. If there had been even one previous incident and the zoo didn't do anything to make it more safe, then I could see an argument that the zoo did not prevent this from happening.

This is 100% on the parents, and they should be punished in some way.

I agree with what you said. My only point in his whole thing is that CPS would likely not be significantly involved.

On Child Protective Services, I would make a report of the incident and forward it to them for investigation.

There are definitely higher powers in this Universe which makes the above a scary thought for me.
